Personally, I try not to pay attention to the mudslinging when looking for a candidate to support, Do they support the issues that are important to me. That is the one who gets my vote.

I remember when Bush Jr. was confronted with cocaine use. His response was, "it's none of your business. I can respect that more than someone who lies with "I didn't have sex with that woman" when he did. It would have been better if he would have said, I am pleading the Fifth or better yet admit that he had sex with that woman and your point is............

Bush Jr. still didn't get my vote when he indicated that Wiccan soldiers at Fort Hood did not have the First Amendment Religious Freedom.

Frequently, women are better off if they deal with sexual harassment on their own. I am pretty good at putting these jerks in their place. Public humiliation can be very effective.. I remember having problems with a DOT driver at one of my jobs The company worked closely with the DOT. He told me he was a DOT supervisor. I laughing with some friends about his stupid azzzzzzzzzzz including one unbeknownst to me who was actually a DOT supervisor. Suddenly I get a call from my employer wanting a statement. My preference was to deal with it myself. I also got a call from the DOT lawyer. Apparently, he had harassed women and the DOT felt like he was a loose cannon. I told my friend that I wished he would have contacted me instead of my employer.

Actually if someone wants to compromise the First Amendment - I am very concerned. It protects the fundamentalist Christians in addition to those in non-Christian religions. My family history is deeply rooted in the quest for Religious Freedom. I have Catholic ancestors who left Scotland to Maryland so that they could freely practice their faith. I also have Quaker ancestors who were booted out of Massachusetts by the Puritans - The Puritans actually executed Quakers because they were not Puritans. There is also a Pastor John Waller - a Baptist Minister who was incarcerated and beaten because citizens in Virginia were only allowed to be in the Church of England. He preached to the troops in the American Revolution and was instrumental in the creation of the First Amendment. Pastor Waller also established the First Baptist Church in the United States in Spotsylvania, Virginia which is still operating. If a political candidate seeks to suppress someone else's religion even if it's not my own - I get concerned and that candidate is not going to get my support.

There are main stream religions that have bizarre practices. It would be interesting to hear a Supreme Court prospective as to what point do they cross the line. There are Christian Sects that do snake handling but do they cross the line when they hand a poisonous snake to a child. My daughter-in-laws mother was raised a Christian Science and denied Medical Treatment which had painful consequences. She is now an Atheist. The Mormons gave up the polygamist marriages as deal for Utah to become a State. Fundamentalist Mormon leader Warren Steed Jeffs found himself in prison for felony child assault but still has faithful followers. A person's chosen spiritual path/ religion is constitutionally protected even if it is not acceptable to someone with a different religion but it does not excuse criminal behavior.

It doesn't really matter because Bush Junior won the election. I wasn't especially upset when he won nor would I have been upset if McCain won even if I didn't vote for them. Bush obviously did not take Wicca seriously but as President he would have the power to possibly suppress that religion. He did try to block the possibility of Gay Marriages by introducing a Marriage Protection Constitutional Amendment. That is a religious issue.
