I hope this doesn't cause your heart to stop, but by Canadian standards i am a moderate.

Lifelong Liberal, aka The Moderate Party of Canada.

I don't think that the Canadian bloggers have a 'seething resentment' for the United States.

Many are interested in American politics because our economies are so intertwined.

Many worry about our neighbours and try to give advice... but like trying to give advice to a brother or sister on their choice of boyfriend or girlfriend, it usually isn't welcomed.

We are both great countries and we are ALL fortunate to be living in North America!!

Great but different!

I haven't seen any Canadians here hating or bashing the U.S., but I do see conservative Americans bashing liberal Americans and Canadians all the time.

Lisz you didn't drive very far in Canada if you only went from Montreal to Quebec (that is Quebec City). There are some of us on the west coast of Canada and you didn't even come close. I don't have any resentment of the states. I have a lot of relatives down there and my youngest brother works in Jacksonville, FL. I am sure I am more aware of what is happening down in your part of the world than what you are of Canada. It is just a fact of life. I was told once by my cousin who lives in Mississippi that there is too much going on in the states to be following any kind of news in Canada. So think we Canadians are much more up to-date in that regard.

What seems to escape Americans is that the people from Canada on here ARE moderates.

What Americans consider moderate Europeans and Canadians regard as very right wing. Even Aussies (who are regarded as somewhat more right wing than Europeans and definitely more right wing than New Zealanders) come over as radical compared to most of the Americans posting on these blogs.

What also does not seem to be well known is that European and Canadian news carries many news stories from America, even analysis of American politics, whereas US media carry very little about the rest of the world. Any society which incessantly looks inward is prone to extremism. This is as true at a national level as it is at the individual community level.

What Liszt categorises as " horrible ambassadors" represent mainstream opinion and what is regarded as "seething resentment" is nothing of the kind - usually it is simply the reaction an avuncular relative might display when confronted by strident protestations of 'specialness' . Anyone who has had several teenagers in the family at the same time will know what that means.

It might surprise you to learn that in the UK I am considered to be on the sensible left wing of the old fashioned Labour party (not the travesty which was Tony Blair's New Labour) and some way removed from the Clause 4 Trotskyists, Communists or 4th International Socialists; they are certainly more left wing than I am.

I bash the US all the time.

And I am far from being alone in this.

I have friends in Oregon that make look like a Bircher.

Bond's summation is pretty accurate.

I hear people of other countries complain that we Americans don't keep up with the news of other countries, and that the rest of the world keeps up with the current affairs of the USA.

I can only surmise that media coverage across the globe realizes that most anything newsworthy in the world usually occurs in the USA.

The rest of the world makes us exceptional, then complains about it.

GBU,

Gavin

Lisz not sure where you get your facts from. You make it sound like we have nothing but Muslims in our country. You really should get your facts straight.

LOL!

Methinks I touched a nerve!

I note another tirade from you, only this time it took you several attempts before you were satisfied.

Please tell me again why you don't care what I think and I'm so irrelevant to you?

GBU,

Gavin
