Fell on dead ears here - The women in my family have been "packing" for as long as I can remember. personally I never met a woman who has truly lived and thrived in the rural areas that is not at least a little like granny Calmpet. I think the gun issue is more a cultural issue than anything else. Spiritwoman ^i^

I only fear guns that are in the hands of others. If I am holding it, I know it's not loaded and the safety is on. If someone else is holding one, I don't know it's state. Some local idiot just got charged with a number of offences because he left a loaded rifle in the front seat of his car. He left the car with a couple of kids in it, and a five year old let off a round. Fortunately the only damage was to the car, and the gun owner's bank account once the courts are done with him.

Some of you should read my blog Numbers For The Gunnies To Ponder. The conservative side keeps bringing up the point that the cities with the most gun crime have the most restrictive gun laws implying that the latter causes the former. Primo, correlation does not prove causality. Secundo, it would appear far more logical to conclude that restrictive gun laws are the result of high crime rates involving guns than the other way around. This howler doesn't beat 'The first thing Hitler did....', but it's a close second.
