THE SO-CALLED "HONER KILLINGS"

After my long break from blogging, which seems to have been mostly unnoticed, I am back today with some sad factual occurrences that unfortunately happen in a few parts of our world. Here is a fact that has eventually touched my feelings as a mother, when I read about it.......

A woman in Pakistan has burned her 17-year-old alive, about two weeks ago, to punish her for marrying against the family's wishes. The latest in a series of the so-called "Honor Killings" that claim the lives of nearly 1,000 women every year in that conservative Muslim country.

Police say Zeenat's mother, Parveen, tied her to a cot and drenched her with kerosene before setting her on fire. Neighbors in the congested, working-class neighborhood in the eastern city of Lahore, came running when they heard the screams, but family members kept them from entering the house, said a neighbor who lives nearby. The police eventually arrived and found the charred body of that girl near a staircase. They arrested the mother soon thereafter.

The victim's husband, Hassan , told reporters the two had been "in love since our school days" but the family had rejected several of his marriage proposals, forcing them to elope last month. He showed an affidavit of consent signed by his wife before a magistrate. He also showed cellphone photos of a smiling Zeenat wearing a red dress

A local police officer, said Parveen, (the mother) confessed of killing her with the help of her Ahmar. He quoted the woman as saying "I don't have any regret ". Another police officer said the body showed signs of beating and strangulation. Hundreds of women are killed every year in Pakistan -- often by their own family members for violating the country's conservative norms regarding love and marriage. Sex outside marriage is also seen by conservative Pakistanis, as a stain on the honor of the woman's entire family, that stain can only be removed by killing her, in a the most cruel way.

Last week a schoolteacher, M. Bibi, was set on fire for refusing to marry a man twice her age. The prime suspect in the case — the father of the man she refused to marry with another other four people. A month earlier, police arrested 13 members of a local tribal council who allegedly strangled a girl and set her ablaze for helping a friend elope. The charred body of 17-year-old Ambreen was found in a burned van.

Hassan, the husband of the woman killed in Lahore, said her mother and uncle had visited her three days before, persuading her to return home and supposedly to have a marriage ceremony with the family. He recalled his wife Zeenat, telling him: "Don't let me go, they will kill me", and they eventually did it!!. Other similar cases happened in other such type of countries: by burning the women alive, by stoning them to death, by using acid on them, by beheading and mutilating them also.

This proves that Love is unknown, unfelt and unacceptable for them, Love does not exist for them. Love just engenders Killing by such atrocity, by savagery and monstrosity !! It's a revulsion, barbaric acts, evil feelings. Oh Yes, for them "Killing is an Honor"!!. Horrible sense of mentality for sure!!. Can you imagine a mother or a father setting their own alive on fire, just because of her love marriage!!. What a satanic spirit, heartless, unmerciful, callous, cold-heart and inhuman parents, tribal council and relatives as well!!.

My above post is NOT against the Muslim religion but about the barbaric way of punishing those women, their anchored hatred and most of all, their joy of calling it " HONOR KILLINGS". Hope you have got an insight of those real facts. Can you and would you have heart to do such unimaginable act towards your own ??
Thanks for your read and views.
Lisa.

I could find a few photos of: The young woman, her husband, their official marriage certificate, their neighbors, and the dead body of another such victim and her photo.

OMG, what a monster of a mother. How on earth can that kind of behaviour be ever considered right.

Glad to see you back, Lisa, you were missed.

There is no honour in what some call honour killings!

IT'S MURDER, AND SHOULD BE VIEWED, AND PROSECUTED AS SUCH!!

Beth this also happens in India as well. There was a case years ago where I live of a jealous husband who killed his wife and then burned her body. She was three months pregnant when this happened. He was a school teacher and well regarded by his students and staff member at the school where he taught. Their marriage may have been arranged. Welcome back to the blogs Beth!

Welcome back Beth!

Honour Killings have been quite prevalent in Canada for awhile and, from what I gather, are happening more and more!!

On June 16, the father and brother of a slain Toronto teen were sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to the December 2007 murder of Aqsa Parvez, a 16-year-old girl of Pakistani descent who wanted to wear western clothes and get a part-time job like her Canadian peers. Unbelievable as it seems, it happened. Are these people so inbred that they're still living in another century? I begrudge this entire practice that they bring to our country. It's increasingly popping up in courtrooms as first-generation Muslims struggle to balance the strict old-world ways of their parents with a desire to fit into a more liberal society!

And then there's the case last year of Muhammad Shafia, his second wife, Tooba Muhammad Yahya, and their son, Hamed Shafia, accused of killing Shafia's first wife and three daughters, who were found in a vehicle submerged in a canal in Kingston, Ontario.

A certain Dr. Amin Muhammad is a psychiatrist at Memorial University in St. John's, Newfoundland & who is currently working on a report for the federal government about honour killings in Canada, said there've been 13 such cases in the country since 2002. He goes on to say: "Noting honour killings are not in any way condoned in the Qur'an, Islam's holy book, the idea is coming up more as a defence for murder by people hoping to take advantage of Canada's cultural sensitivity in order to receive a more lenient sentence". He also said he suspects mental-health issues are behind most cases.

Tom hi,
Thank you for your visit and your personal comments, which I appreciate very much. That event was so horrific and touchy, I feel the pain that young girl had felt agonizingly before her death. And what surprises me more, it's from her own mother!!, who had the heart to do such act and watched her girl dying in such circumstances. This is what made me to post this blog. For 5 centuries of my country till now, we haven't experienced such, "Act of Burning a person alive". I have read many of such cases in this particular country and in other similar ones too. What a shameful and barbaric act!!.
I tried to keep myself from blogging on it until I couldn't prevent it any more, when reading the recent one. I wonder and wonder but their custom/tradition will still continue without any remorse. Thank you again Tom. Have a beautiful Sunday.

Earthytaurus, dear Lady, hi.
How pleased I am, reading you on my blogs again. Thank you so much, dear, for your interest in reading me on here and for your nice comments as well.
Lady, it's really disgusting for a mother to inflict such a painful death to her own daughter in such a way and proudly said, "she has no regret for it". Is this the feeling of a mother? God for bid!!
Thanks so much ET, I wish you and all of yours, a happy Sunday.
Lisa.

Thanks once more for your righteous comments, my dear. Enjoy a wonderful Sunday with all of yours.

It's satanic. They are not honour killings, they are horror killings. So sad.

Judgment Day will be interesting - and all paths lead there.

Shartaun, dear Lady, hello.
Thank you very much for reading me on here and for your informative comments as well. You are right, it happened in India but the Hindus, by their religious rites, burn their dead ones accordingly, unless by self suicide. But repeatedly as a habit/tradition or custom in Pakistan and other similar countries, the women are burnt alive !!. I have read lots of such cases since and this time I couldn't keep it within myself and I was eager to post this blog on it. I wonder how a mother could set her own daughter on fire alive!!.
You are always welcome on my blogs Shartaun and than you again for your input. I wish you and all of yours, A wonderful Sunday.

How delighted I am for reading you again on my blog, I missed you too, Karin, be sure of it. Thank you so much for your king feelings my dear friend and for your kind visit and wonderful comments too. I really appreciate your comments and I understand the cases you've mentioned above. It's a great pity for such people to undergo and suffer such atrocities and monstrous further more from a girl's mother. What type of courage she has to burn her own daughter alive!! and "For the HONER of KILLINGS", I just can't believe it really!!. However, the heart is a heart but what it engenders is really quite different!!.
Thanks again Karin, have a happy Sunday with all of yours. Blessings.
Lisa.

Maisie dear, hi.
I am grateful for your visit and your nice informative comments. The story of that couple you mentioned above, could have been as a " HONER KILLINGS AS WELL" as long as it is the so-called tradition. This means that there is NO family feelings as such. Therefore it's tradition/custom that primes and not the life of the person. In whichever the women are killed, it does never matter for those persecutors. But what prevails is "The Honer Killings"!!.
It's my great pleasure reading you Maisie, thanks so much. Enjoy a delightful Sunday with your family.

Lisa.

Mary Ann, my dear friend, hi.
What a great pleasure for your visit and your thoughtful comments, my dear. I sincerely thank you for your participation and sharing of those cruel acts. I have read so much about all these dreadful deeds also. For them, the female gender is secondary to them, under their domination and dictatorship. Their tradition or custom retain them in the barbaric reputation and it will grow from their generation into future ones. Keeping them undeveloped as such.
Thank you dearly for your input Mary Ann, enjoy a wonderful weekend with all your family.
Lisa.

FrenchSalsa, hello Lady and welcome to my blog.
Am so delighted reading your statement sharing with us the similar cases which happened in Canada. Relatively, such acts are from the same original tradition/custom. It's a real shame to apply such custom in other countries where it is not a tradition/custom and which doesn't allow it. One should keep his custom in his country and just stay there and apply it to his own people. It's so clear and understandable. This cruel custom has been incited by the people themselves and to call it " A HONER KILLING", is killing and Honer as such??. What about when it's done by a biological mother, such as in the factual above event!!??. This is just cruelty, it's a shame being a mother in such case.
I thank you sincerely FrenchSalsa, hoep reading from you on my blogs in the future. I wish you and all your family, a Happy sunday. BTW, I have close relatives living in Toronto, for decades now. I've been there before too.
