CHINA'S ATLANTIS and THE LOST LION CITY

Here I am today, again posting a new blog. As I've been encouraged to continue, by my faithful readers whom I gratefully thank. In gratitude, I have chosen to post this blog on " The Underwater Lost Lion City " of China. Hoping it would please you.

Shi Cheng an ancient city, was founded 1,300 years ago in Dong Han period (25-200 A.D.). Located in Zhejiang, (China), Shi Cheng was set up as a city in 208, it was the center of politics and economics and was later named "The Lion City", because of the Five Lion Mountain that loomed large behind it. "The Lion City" defied the Chinese norm since 5 gates and 5 towers were built into the city instead of 4, and a maze of white temples, memorial arches, paved roads and houses were also built.

But in 1959, the Chinese government decided a new hydroelectric power station was required. The 290,000 residents were displaced from " The Lion City ", where their ancestors had lived in for over 1,300 years. Making way to built a man-made lake, so the valley was flooded. The lake and thousands of islands were made. Erecting a dam, the historical metropolis was slowly filled with water until it was completely submerged by the turquoise-blue mass referred to as Quandao Lake.

" The Lion City " was purposely-flooded but it remains completely intact 130ft underwater after 50 years, even the wooden beams and stairs and structures are still intact. This Lost City was totally forgotten... until divers have started to uncover parts of it and International archaeologists and film crew has recorded the amazing preservation of the lost ruins.

Big Blue dive operator based in Shanghai, is running weekend trips twice a month throughout the year to the underwater lost city, using the metropolis as a tourist site.

Below are some photos of " The Lost Lion City ", I hope they will please you. Thank you for reading my blog and Happy viewing.
Lisa.

If the city was flooded by fresh water, how come there's a stingray (or is it two?) in one of the pictures? Something fishy ....

Judgment Day will be interesting - and all paths lead there.

Hermitinthecity hi,

Thank you for visit and comments. We may imagine, the Lost City have not been flooded with only fresh water. As sea creatures are shown on there, it proves that sea water was pumped and many of those might have passed through and grown in that water for so long or... could have been just introduced later on. That's how I guess it. However, Zhejiang is bordering China sea with a delta near Shanghai.
Thanks again, wishing you a pleasant week.
Lisa.

Human needs know no bounds. Even a wonderful ancient city could be purposely-flooded for building a hydroelectric power station for cheap energy displacing the 290,000 residents from the City, where their ancestors had lived in for over 1,300 years. Lisa, it pains me to say that we humans would destroy our past systematically to meet our limitless needs! Our greed will be the cause of our end one day.
An informative blog and wonderful pictures too. Thanks for sharing.
Kindest Regards. Lisa, MLLD

MBN Looklook hello,

Am so happy, reading from MBN on this blog of mine. Thank you so much for your kind visit and for your meaningful comments. Yes Looklook,as we read about the fatalities of that great city, which has been destroyed, its part of the history has gone, be it historical and cultural point of view. I just imagine how those inhabitants, their belongings and their past had just been erased totally. It's really a pity and it proves how humanity is senseless at times. I wonder if there wasn't any other free places to build that dam or was it simply a grudge or revenge against those inhabitants!!.
Thanks again for your sensible comments MBN, hope reading from you always.
My best wishes to you for a wonderful week.
YLLD Lisa.

Maisie dear, hi

You are warmly welcome on my blogs as usual. Thank you so much for your kind visit and your wonderful comments. It's my great pleasure reading from you and am so glad for your appreciation of my blogs as well. I thought it right to post this blog, cause it's really a pity when thinking about those residents who were forced to abandon all their possessions, their culture and their past, just for the sake of a damn dam as such.

Thanks for talking to others about any topic you find interesting on my blogs, Maisie, am so proud of you. Thanks again dear.
I heart fully wish you a lovely week, hope reading from again in the future.
My best regards to you,
Lisa.

Beth,
The drownd city reminds me of two villages here in France, they were covered by the waters of the "Lac de Serre Poncon and the Lac de Tignes. Neither Savines nor Tignes were big cities but there residents were pretty unhappy to see there homes disappear under water. Savines has been rebuilt on the lake shore and there is a chapel on an island that still remains from the old days. I often wonder why engineers and planners can't find ways to avoid the destruction of towns so old.
