" A RARE PHENOMENA IN THE SKY"

Today 27th of August 2014, at about 21.30 GMT/ 00.30 my local time, there would be a rare phenomena. The Moon and Mars, will appear at the same time in the sky. Something which happens as mentioned, every 200 yrs +. I don't know if they will be seen everywhere but it's just an info for my readers. Some brief notes on these three planets and a few pictures of them, Hoping they will please you. Thank you for reading.
Lisa.

MOON
Our moon makes Earth a more livable planet by moderating our home planet's wobble on its axis, leading to a relatively stable climate, and creating a tidal rhythm that has guided humans for thousands of years. The moon was likely formed after a Mars-sized body collided with Earth and the debris formed into the most prominent feature in our night sky.
The moon's weak atmosphere and its lack of liquid water cannot support life as we know it.
Surface features that create the face known as the "Man in the moon" are impact basins on the moon that are filled with dark basalt rocks.

How these Moons Got their Names
Earth's only natural satellite is simply called the moon because people didn't know other moons existed until Galileo Galilei discovered four moons orbiting Jupiter in 1610. Other moons in our solar system are given names so they won't be confused with each other. We call them moons because, like our own, they are natural satellites orbiting a solar system body (which in turn is orbiting a star).
1959-1976: The U.S.S.R.'s Luna program of 17 robotic missions achieves many "firsts" and three sample returns.
1961-1968: The U.S. Ranger, Lunar Orbiter, and Surveyor robotic missions pave the way for Apollo human lunar landings.
1969: Astronaut Neil Armstrong is the first human to walk on the moon's surface.

MARS
Mars is a cold desert world. It is half the diameter of Earth and has the same amount of dry land. Like Earth, Mars has seasons, polar ice caps, volcanoes, canyons and weather, but its atmosphere is too thin for liquid water to exist for long on the surface. There are signs of ancient floods on Mars, but evidence for water now exists mainly in icy soil and thin clouds. Mars is a rocky planet, also known as a terrestrial planet. Mars' solid surface has been altered by volcanoes, impacts, crustal movement, and atmospheric effects such as dust storms. Mars has a thin atmosphere made up mostly of carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrogen (N2) and argon (Ar). Mars is known as the Red Planet because iron minerals in the Martian soil oxidize, or rust, causing the soil -- And the dusty atmosphere -- to look red. Mars was named by the Romans for their god of war because of its red, bloodlike color. Other civilizations also named this planet from this attribute; for example, the Egyptians named it "Her Desher," meaning "the red one.

EARTH
Earth, our home planet, is the only planet in our solar system known to harbor life - life that is incredibly diverse. All the things we need to survive exist under a thin layer of atmosphere that separates us from the cold, airless void of space. Earth is a rocky planet, also known as a terrestrial planet, with a solid and dynamic surface of mountains, valleys, canyons, plains and so much more. What makes Earth different from the other terrestrial planets is that it is also an ocean planet: 70 percent of the Earth's surface is covered in oceans Earth is the perfect place for life. Earth's atmosphere protects us from incoming meteoroids, most of which break up in our atmosphere before they can strike the surface as meteorites.

*These are the main facts of these three planets I can post for you on here, as all the relative details are too long to edit. The photo of the 3 Astronauts are: Micheal Collins, Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong.
Thank you for your viewing

Hi Lisa: That was so interesting, and loved all the pics too. It really makes you feel so insignificant, like just a tiny speck of sand on a huge beach when you look at the whole solar system. I wonder if we'll be able to see that event today, and I wonder what time that will be here in Canada.

Looklook,

Thank you for reading my blog and for your nice comments as well.
Happy to see you back again. As I have read of this event, my first thought was to inform my readers about it, so that those who would have a chance to have a glimpse of it, would do. I'll try to watch it too if the weather here would permit it and if the sky here would be clear enough.
Thank you also for your encouragement. Wishing you all my best.
Keep well and take care.
Lisa.

Hi Bijou,

Am so glad to read from you once more, thanks for your visit and your wonderful comments. As for time zone, we, in Mauritius, are 8 hrs ahead of Canada. and 3 hrs ahead of UK.
So, you just have to calculate your time there accordingly. I guess it may be around your 4.30 pm there and if it is sunny, you should wear dark glasses for protection and to be able to see it clearly too. It is mentioned that the Northern part of the hemisphere may see it better. Wish you good luck in watching it. Thank you for your appreciation of my quick informative post. Have a nice day and happy viewing of this very rare phenomena.
Best regards.
Lisa.

Hi Spiritwoman,

How glad I am seeing you here again on my blog. Thank you for your visit and for your comments too. I really don't know if I myself would be able to see it from my place here as it is winter time and the sky would be cloudy too. But anyhow, I wish all those who would see it, a wonderful view.
Thanks again, hoping to see you soon again.
Best wishes,
Lisa.

Hi Lisa. I think there's no chance to see this kind of phenomena in these tropical countries, unless in places they have big telescopes. Thanks for the interesting information.

Hi Glumo,

Thanks for passing by again Glumo and you're always welcome. Thanks for your nice comments as well. Yes, I guess so many of us may not be able to see it really, but it's an interesting info and as the event only takes place after each 200+ years, it would be great if anyone would be able to watch it. Here as being still in winter time and a cloudy sky also, it will be difficult for us to watch such event, I wish if any of my readers would see it and pass the info to us.
May I ask from which country you are Glumo?.
Thanks again for your visit.
With my kind regards.
Lisa.
