I think it's a refusal of identity. I dont believe in a man trapped in a woman's body and vice versa. I think it's rubbish. Obviously some will not agree. Personally I think it's a desire to be something other than what you are because you are not happy with what you are and want to be something else. All the time we are told to be ourselves, dont try to be what you are not and now on the other hand we got this. I know some will twist that to say, they cant be who they are until they are someone else. But for me, I'm born what I am, I accept it and live with it. My mind doesnt wander off and even go there, what are they thinking? For goodness sake! A lie of a devil in their head? It's weird. For thousands of years we have to be what we are, now in this medical age some people who can afford it have face lifts, cosmetic surgery, breast enlargements and even sex changes, get inked etc, sadly many are not happy with who they are and want to be different. I'm not talking about people with birth defects, it's wonderful that theres medical help for them, but just a physically normal person......? Anyway, that's my view. Judgment Day will be interesting - and all paths lead there.

To add another thought, it might be consciously or subconsciously an attempt to be noticed through shock value. An attention seeking thing. In this age of much publicised sexuality there's some sort of 'fame' attached and the press loves this stuff, the world's accepting and promoting a perverse thing. If this becomes every day .... what'll be thought of next, every generation seems to be a degeneration. If I have my history right, every civilisation that became decadent perished. If that is so how much time have we left? Judgment Day will be interesting - and all paths lead there.

I have always said that a person's genitalia are an excellent indicator of exactly what sex they are. Alfie...

Whatever works for him is okay and doesn't bother me one way or the other ........ whatever his motivation is.

I have known a couple of transgenders personally, way back before it was a popular topic but the nature of my occupation took me up close and personal with just about everything the "normal" bury under the rug. I agree with Roxy's assessment. All of the fuss in this case is likely about publicity and money. The reality of transgender is complex and highly personal. As for opinions about the topic in general, I really don't have one. Not necessary for things that really have nothing to do with us. Although I feel the same about transgenders as I do about anyone confronting a serious, life changing issue that is a trigger for so much emotional reaction from people who really have no connection - basically that if we can't led support we just need to stay out of their way and be careful not to make things more difficult for them. As I said in my earlier blog about Bruce Jenner transitioning to a woman, I believe he's very brave. I can't imagine what it would be like to feel trapped inside my body. The difference between judging and having an opinion to me is, in the former, you find fault with what someone is doing even though it doesn't really affect you. That's my opinion. Elaine Shuel
