Feyerabend on Truth

Ever since I first looked in on this site there have been the same people bandying around the word"Truth" as if there is an ultimate Truth and they subscribe to it and recognize it when it comes up and so recognize "untruths".........Of course, this attitude is old as the day is long..........and there have been and are as many versions of this "Truth" as there are raindrops in the ocean.................Personally, I don't subscribe to the concept of an ultimate objective Truth.....History will back me on this......Truth is subjective and infinitely variable..........I also think that anyone who claims to know the "Truth" is just illuminating their own ignorance. Here is one of my favourite philosophers on the subject.........May I present .....Paul Feyerbend......

"'Truth' is such a nicely neutral word. Nobody would deny that it is commendable to speak the truth and wicked to tell lies. Nobody would deny that—and yet nobody knows what such an attitude amounts to. So it is easy to twist matters and to change allegiance to truth in one's everyday affairs into allegiance to the Truth of an ideology which is nothing but the dogmatic defense of that ideology. And it is of course not true that we have to follow the truth. Human life is guided by many ideas. Truth is one of then. Freedom and mental independence are others. If Truth, as conceived by some ideologists, conflicts with freedom then we have a choice. We may abandon freedom. But we may also abandon Truth."

I have a friend who never lies. She just tells the truth the way she thinks it should be......

Eyewitnesses all feel they have told the truth, even though their statements of the same incident may be entirely different.

I find there is a lot more truthiness than truth here.

    Quoting lulugravy:
But truthiness is just a made up word....meant as a spoof......
It's a word that was made up because there was nothing in English to express the concept.

Usually when the happens we borrow from the Germans.

Wonder if there is word in German for 'truthiness'?
