Politics didn't used to be so political! Well... yes it did. I remember all the kids older than I protesting big government (and big business). Now kids younger than I are protesting for a big nanny government, and their 'saints' like HildaBama pandering to big business. PC the new Fascist, Pacifist the nu cool, both the pot labeling the kettle

A March does not have to be Anti-Trump. I have been to Marches and lobbied during the Obama era and the motivation was certainly not anti-Obama. Lobbying is about building a relationship with Congress and that can't be done by calling them names.

Two years ago, I spoke to our Senator about the drug problem in West Virginia and solutions. There was a FCNL staff who went with me and talked about the problems with Mass Incarceration and a sentencing reform bill. The Senator is now co-sponsoring that bill. I have learned that our Congress Representatives and Senators are all on the same page about finding solutions to the drug problem regardless of party affiliation.

This weekend I will be part of the March for the Environment in Washington DC. This will also be followed up by lobbying. Environmental issues are a big deal in West Virginia. Our water supply has been poisoned by chemical spills. Strip mining has toxic consequences for local communities. Coal mining is a major source of employment for many West Virginians so the challenge is balancing financial realities with consideration for the environment.

I did go to the Women's March in Washington DC. It was stressed in our organizing meetings that that march was Not anti-Trump. There were quite a few individuals who had their own opinions and took the March in that direction. I remember standing in the middle of a mosh pit listening to Madonna's potty mouth.

Somehow, I don't think that is a scenerio that will happen this weekend. I would much rather listen to a scientist than Madonna.

When dealing with politics - You are talking problems and potential solutions to human problems. The rising cost of health care is very much a human issue and there are major league problems with available health care in West Virginia because of the rising costs. My husband had to travel to Virginia because his doctor moved out of state because of unrealistic Malpractice Insurance costs in West Virginia. Doctors are also burdens with dealing with complicated insurance practices in order to get paid when they would rather simply be practice medicine.

The affordable health care act was a potential solution but not without problems and Ranger's suggestion to "Get A Job" with employer provided Health Insurance also has it problems.

There are people in Monroe County, WV who are fighting potential pipelines being built on their properties. We have to appeal to the various legislation branches for solutions.

I know the Libertarian stance is less government the better but we still need our schools, our roads, police, ad infinitum.

I am well aware of the stance for the Women's March. I was there. My inclination is to focus on the issues versus the personalities.

    Quoting  :

Our lone Democrat West Virginia, Senator Joe Manchin does not necessary operate along party line. There were quite a few Democrats voted for Gary Johnson or Jill Stein because they were not thrilled with Hillary Clinton. They were not happy with Trump either but knew he was going to take West Virginia. We also have a Democrat Governor who has much in common with Trump. Jim Justice owns the Greenbrier Resort which is a few blocks from my home. He is a multi-billionaire, more into business versus politics. I went to the Election Watch at the Greenbrier which ended up also being a Victory Party. I was surrounded by "Deplorables" but luckily none of them were inspired to punch me.
Thus far, our West Virginia Governor is doing an excellent job. His stance is that he is not interested in Democrat versus Republican. He wants what is best for West Virginia.

I can honestly say that the participants in the Women's March were not too impressed with Trump's "locker room" talk and reproductive rights was a big issue. Nevertheless, I can guarantee that none of my West Virginia Quaker or even my more Liberal DAR sisters would wear a Vagina Hat.
