Our area was never much affected by the 'holiday' thing a few years ago .... people still said "Merry Christmas", although some clerks at Walmart did often just say, "Same to you" or "Happy Holidays".
I've seen far less of that in the past couple of years. I don't have children in school any more, so not sure how they handle it, although one of my daughters shares with me that her small children's teachers are not anti-Christian, and her son was allowed to take his new Bible to school and read it during quiet reading times.

On another note.... several state capitols are now allowing the Christmas manger scene to be displayed, including CALIFORNIA (for the first time in a long time). There is an organization, the Thomas More Society, that has aided churches to petition for this, and even helps by furnishing the crèche if needed.

I remember a few years ago when Wally World cashiers did the "Same to you" or "Happy Holidays". After hearing this and wondering why since we are celebrating the birth of Christ. They weren't allowed to say, Merry CHRISTmas.

I usually tried to go to a particular cashier. One day I said, Merry Christmas. She smiled, looked around and in a low voice said, Merry Christmas. Did my heart good!

Hi Maisie: If a teacher in any public school had put up a poster honouring some Muslim god on some Muslim religious holiday, I think the principal would make them take that down as well. I don't have any children but I wouldn't like it if their elementary school was even subliminally, through a seemingly harmless poster, suggesting to my child that there is a supernatural god.

In my opinion, that teacher's intentions might have been good, but her actions were wrong.

Perhaps she wasn't so much a liberal atheist, as she was in fear of them after all the hullabaloo we have seen in the news for the past several years. She definitely was not well informed, that's for sure.

Wikipedia,,, EMPATHY.....

"Empathy is the capacity to understand or feel what another person is experiencing from within the other being's frame of reference, i.e., the capacity to place oneself in another's position. Empathy is seeing with the eyes of another, listening with the ears of another and feelings with the heart of another.[1] There are many definitions for empathy which encompass a broad range of emotional states. Types of empathy include cognitive empathy, emotional empathy, and somatic empathy.[2] In the development of human empathy, individual differences appear, ranging from no apparent empathic ability, or empathy which is harmful to self or others, to well-balanced empathy, including the ability to distinguish between self and other."

It seems to me, if someone feels overly sorry for themselves, too narrowminded, too focused, too egotistical, too narcissistic, too argumentative, too religious, too needy, and have too much of need to be right...They will lack empathy.

bite your tongue....

And party on......

That is, of course, unless you want to be like me! Somewhere along the line I bit my tongue off.

I refused to respond to fossil as his response was not to me, so this was the next best thing.

You're right that one can only hope the school would take down references to any religion in a school. If they left that poster up, then what would stop all the other religions from putting up posters referring to their gods on their religious holidays? Meanwhile the poor little kids read all these posters and don't know what to believe. What if a Muslim poster was really effective and one of the Christian kids started to believe in Islam?

You don't even know him......... how can you make any judgments about him and his wife? Actually, they are a very lovely, loving, and fun couple to be with, and have gone through some horrible events in life and came out of them stronger together than ever.
