After reading your blog, I thought about the stores and restaurants that we patronize...... and my favorites are the ones with good customer service. We find that at our nearby Kroger and Walmart, and at our favorite little diner. I almost never go to the big malls.

A lot of people go to the store, look at what they want then go and order it online.

Judgment Day will be interesting - and all paths lead there.

Sad but true, Maisie. I went to a store for the linens set and asked how many ply. The salesgirl asked, do you mean thread count? I was recently with someone looking for an adjustable bed and the guy said it is as high as it could be adjusted. I said that was impossible since nobody would buy one that could barely go up. After I insisted it can't be right, he eventually figured it out. Often I have to explain to salespeople the way their products work. Bottom line is they hire salespeople and don't train them properly. This turns customers off and leads to stores going under.

I read about how ply works and that is why single thread is important. If it is 800 thread count and using 4 ply, you would see it listed as 800 thread but truly it would be 200 thread. I have seen some that say single threads are used and that is why I asked the salesperson. Shopping by thread count without knowing ply, can be not seeing the whole picture regarding the quality. Also, Italian weave is the best.

In Canada now you cant use Visa at Wal-Mart. People who collect air miles on their aero card are no doubt totally ticked off. I shop some at Sears and especially when they have sales. But they aren't doing a big thriving business that is for sure. The Sears I shop at employs a lot of retirees as they are more reliable. There used to be a Sears in downtown Vancouver and it closed shop and Nordstroms have taken over that space.

You do know your sheets, Maisie. I am impressed. I have seen woven in Italy in some of the sheets I have looked at online. Example, this Belvivere site I just saw. Description of the sheets:

100% Italian spun Egyptian combed cotton.
Long staple fiber "Mako" quality selection.
Hand picked on the fertile Nile river banks.
Woven in Italy into a luxurious 430 Thread Count Sateen.

I didn't pay attention for that one but I have seen other sets woven in Italy. Instead of a 100% Egyptian Cotton set costing around $100 - $150, the ones I saw woven in Italy, were sold in separate pieces at about $150 for fitted and the same amount for flat and after all is set and done, around $450 or more for a whole sheet set. I ended up buying one made in India.

Excellent price, Maisie. I can't imagine ever paying anywhere close to $450 for bed sheets.
