One of the features of the book which did not make the film was an assassination attempt on Judah.

No - the book was not touchy-feely either

I picked up a DVD of Bonanza last year.
I started to watch the first episode on it and quickly gave up.
It is awful.

To think I used to lap that up.

We still watch some of the old reruns of the detective shows like Law and Order and the off shoots of it. You can almost look back and see where the PC crap started to infiltrate it.
Now, I enjoy NCIS and its reruns and the reruns of Leverage. But lately, I would rather read or play on my computer.
Joe still enjoys those old westerns and no, I would not want to see those characters with a softer, more PC attitude. Could you just imagine Val Kilmar as Doc Holliday (in Tombstone) being soft?

Hi JKH: I thought the original Manchurian Candidate was great so I bought the new one with Meryl Streep and Denzel and it was great too.
