I welcome the refugees but was also wondering how a Syrian refugee would prove to an immigration officer that they are LGBT. I did some refugee claims for Portuguese people who claimed they were persecuted because they were Jehovah Witnesses and their claims were accepted, though faith is something I thought would be very hard to prove.

Today I heard that the Syrian refugees will be given money to live on in Canada for one year, then they will have to earn their own living. Very strange to think that out of the blue tons of jobs will somehow open up to support 25,000 refugees.

The plan was always to take families from refugee camps who had been there for some time.

It's only been scaled back in that the 25,000 will not all come before Dec 31st, which was an unrealistic date anyways.

Military bases around the country are being prepared as temporary housing for the people who come in.

A few Syrians have already arrived.

One family recently flew into Calgary because they were sponsored by relatives already here.
