This is short term reaction in the Calgary business community.
Alberta NDP'ers are not the loony lefties as in BC.

These guys are so far to the right they may as well be Liberals.

The premier-elect represents my riding.

She is no Stalinist.

A smart pragmatic woman who is already making nice with business interests.

The Alberta NDP got a lot of support from labour unions.
Union jobs are dependant on corporations employing people..
The NDP union support is not going to be very happy if the incoming government starts to drive corporations out of Alberta.

I wish I has some spare cash.
It's a good opportunity to buy oil stocks that have been driven down by the irrational hype.

John Birch is a leftie by your standards.

You are certainly living up to your title of Queen of Hyperbole.

You really need to bone up on how petrol prices work.

The major factors are the world oil price, distance from the refinery, taxes, and local conditions.

Provincial governments really can only affect the tax factor, and Alberta has the lowest gasoline tax in Canada.

Yes, it does.

And this is driven by global demand, and not by what party is in power in some insignificant part of the globe.

Anecdotal evidence is by far the best kind of proof.

I rather suspect that no matter how things turn out, you will be saying "I told you so."

Ideologues have a habit of ignoring any evidence that goes against their inchoate opinions.

Maisie:

I wish more Americans would comment on Canadian politics.

It would be a real giggle.

That I can agree with - nobody in the US cares.

Europeans seem to, however.

When I was living in Europe in the 80s I spoke to Europeans about Canada the way I would talk to an American.

I soon stopped that.
Most actually knew where Winnipeg is.

Quite unlike my experience in the Bay area once when I used my Alberta driver's license as id in a bank. The teller asked me where Alberta is.

I can't imagine too many Canucks being perplexed by a Utah state id.
