My grandfather was in one of the most prestigious Univ. in Europe at the turn of the century, i.e. 1909s. The values taught back then, i.e. respect, respect and what he has accomplished later in founding department, and journal, of high level of ethics, I find are lost nowadays in most traditional academias: mercantilism and economics have replaced these human values. The so-called "experts" are often the most arrogant I have met and always put down people. Self-critique or any insight are words they never use or apply anymore. Their omnipotence is too grant to hope any resolve.

But more modestly, I believe stupid are allover, in academia or not.

Yup, college ain't what it used to be.

I was shocked to learn that Latin and Greek are no longer compulsory courses in a BA program.
