 The left makes excuses for terrorists for the same reason the right makes excuses for terrorist - ideology.

The Taliban were Good Guys when they were killing Soviets.
The Taliban are now Bad Guys because they are killing Westerners.

In both cases Taliban aims were the same - rid the country of a foreign occupying force.
