Fest of summer Fruits

Summer Fruits of BD

We have since almost passed through summer--the season that is dreaded by the people of the country where I live now. It will be followed by rainy season--- the season when the torrential rains would sweep the entire country clean almost daily. However, Some of us do not like the season as it is too wet. While the rain keeps us closed inside our homes—summer heat (and humidity too) makes our lives miserable. However, both these two seasons have special attractions to us. Nature provides us with tasty fresh fruits during these two seasons. Here below are the pictures of the fruits that have since flooded the markets! May be, some of the readers could recognize some of the fruits on first look. However, some may remain always unknown to many!!!
Happy Viewing:

Interesting and lovely pictures. Some of these fruits can be found in my local store, but many were not known to me. It would be interesting to taste them.

Thanks Mrs Joe for your comments. The fruit on the 6th photo is known as jackfruit. it is the national fruit of Bangladesh. People here call it Kathal (কাঁঠাল) in the Bengali language. It is very tasty.
Have a wonderful weekend.

Yes, Annie, the fruit is Star Fruit! You are absolutely correct. It is known as 'Kamranga' here in this country! They have a tart, sour undertone, and an oxalic acid odor They taste like citrus family fruits.Unripe fruit is firmer and sour and tastes like green apple. Ripe ones are sweet and very tasty.
Thanks Annie for liking the photos! I appreciate. Take care!

I'm not sure I would want to taste that one. I've seen it in our local store, a very large one and quite expensive, but nobody was buying it, so they cut it into pieces to try to see that way.
I don't know if anyone bought it, but several days later, it was gone.
I read about it, and it has a bad smell but a good taste? That seems VERY unusual.

Yes, Jackfruit is expensive here in this part of the world too. But it is readily available in this country every where during this season, Here below are some information about this fruit that may interest you to taste it for once eventually!
" Ripe jackfruit is naturally sweet, with subtle flavoring. It can be used to make a variety of dishes, including custards, cakes, or mixed with shaved ice as es teler in Indonesia or halo-halo in the Philippines. In India, when the jackfruit is in season, an ice cream chain store called "Naturals" carries jack fruit-flavored ice cream.
Ripe jackfruit arils are sometimes seeded, fried, or freeze-dried and sold as jackfruit chips.
The seeds from ripe fruits are edible; are said to have a milky, sweet taste; and may be boiled, baked, or roasted. When roasted, the flavor of the seeds is comparable to chestnuts. Seeds are used as snacks (either by boiling or fire roasting) or to make desserts. For making the traditional breakfast dish in southern India, idlis, the fruit is used with rice as an ingredient and jackfruit leaves are used as a wrapping for steaming. Jackfruit dosas can be prepared by grinding jackfruit flesh along with the batter." ( Wikipedia )
Just Google the word jackfruit. You will learn more about this wonderful fruit if you feel like. In the mean time thank you so much for your comments.

What a lovely display of summer fruits. The star fruit looks very tasty indeed. A lot of the other fruits are unknown to me too.

Thank you so much,Maudie, for leaving your comments on this blog of mine!. Yes, ripe star fruits are really tasty. We are not supposed to know all the fruits displayed at above because these are grown mainly in tropical countries only. The fruit shown on 5th photo is called Lotkon in Bengali. It is known as Burmese grape in English.
"The fruit is harvested and used locally, eaten as a fruit, stewed or made into wine; it is also used medicinally to treat skin diseases. The bark, roots and wood are harvested for medicinal uses".
Have a nice week end.

Hi Looklook, great blog on your summer fruits. We do have all of them in my country all year round, except the litchis and water melon which are seasonal.
I don't like too much the star fruits due to its sour taste and the monkey fruits because of its sticky flesh also but I do take one of those two types at times.
Thanks for the blog, keep well and happy. Enjoy your day.
Lisa.

Thank you so much for stopping by and your response. Lisa. I appreciate. I know, Mauritius, being a tropical island, have almost all the fruits grown here in my country. Green Star Fruits really taste sour. But the ripe varieties tastes differently! Thanks again for reading the blog. Stay well and cheerful. Enjoy your time happily with your friends.
