The Lost Art Of Writing Letters! May I ask all some frivolous questions? Why we no more write letters? Why we like to communicate with each other now mostly through e-mails or by Cell phones? In addition, could we express ourselves clearly, as we could have done in the past by writing each other letters? Why we do not like to communicate with each other in the way our parents and ancestors did last 2000 years?? Do we agree that various persons for various reasons could misuse the modern communication facilities ? Do we not missing personal touch when we use these facilities to communicate emotional inner thoughts. A friend of mine who is also a member of this site told me some months back about receiving a long e-mail from a very senior member of the site who frequently boasts mostly to new members about his marrying some one from the site. He also repeats like a pet bird how deeply these two love each other. However, the e-mail received by my friend from this man told her a different story. The man clearly expressed his fascination for a woman (my friend being one such lady of mixed origin from an island) having tanned skin. My friend considered this e-mail as not only misleading but also a misuse of the e-mail facility available to us. My friend asked me whether I do think that old-fashioned letter writing was better than the current instant methods of expressing so called love. She also pointed out to me that the instant method to communicate emotion might finish an existing relation very quickly! She mentioned the message as an example of this type of unwanted situation! I could not answer my friend correctly so far and therefore I leave these questions to my readers for answers if there are any! May be some day We shall be able to tell more about this particular case!! Could anyone tell me what were the virtues of old fashioned letter- writing? Lastly, could anyone tell the future of human communication?? Happy Reading: All are invited to kindly participate. |

Look, Letter-writing is very nice but the price of 1st class postage is not. I limit letters to people with no computer or condolences now. So much simpler

I only "write" to one person. A lady in California that called Alfie after his article appeared in the Reader's Digest magazine. He put me on the phone after he talked to her. We talked for about an hour! She is in her early 80s. It turned out that she lived in the same town that I lived in as a teenager. We enjoy writing each other. She said she loves to write letters. Hmmm, just realized I haven't answered the letter I got from her last week...I will do it today.

earthytaurus, Many thanks for your visit to my post. I am also delighted to read your comments left there on. Many of us have perhaps forgotten our past. I felt like reminding the good old past.. My intention was also to point out how we misuse the modern facilities made available to us. I am in full agreement with what you have mentioned in your post. Thanks again, ET. [SIZE 6] boogie, You are very correct, boogie. Those were the days that one could never forget. I could still remember how I used to wait for the postman a block away from my home!! You could imagine why! boogie, do you wish like me to travel through those days again? I am sure that modern habits will ruin such journey completely. I agree, we might loose the ability to write. Thank you once again for stopping by my my blog and also for participating in the discussion!! Best wishes and regards.

Toolips, As usual you have strong points, I would not contest these points. But I intend to point out that the pleasure of waiting for a hand written letter can not be compared with any thing modern!! Believe, it might have happened in your case too. I Shall however tell you to keep in mind the danger of misusing the modern facilities by the modern humans. Best wishes, Toolips.Keep well always, Regards.

Looklook, Frankly saying, nowadays with the new technology, I imagine, very few people are still writing letters comparing to long ago. First of all writing a letter, getting the stamp, mailing it at the post office or elsewhere, do waste much time and takes time also to reach the receiver, while sending an email or talking personally to one via the net or text on mobile and so no, are much more quicker in sending and receiving a reply too, it's within seconds even. But the old fashion is just remembered of the past now, I can't see myself, sitting to write a letter as in the old days really. The technology has gone so far and overcoming all these. Imagine just sending a letter to an foreign country, may take about 8 to 10 days to reach or even more from other countries also and to receive a reply too but while via the net it takes seconds only. So, really am not of the idea of writing letters., I better live in the present with modern facilities, it suits me far better. I have simply stated my real opinion about it. Thanks for the blog. With my best wishes. Lisa. PS: I wonder why all these wranglings and skirmish above !!.

The last time I wrote a real letter was to my mother who died 4 years ago........She lived in Norway for the last 40 years of her life and so, as and adult, I only knew my mother through these letters........Your blog has given me a resolution to write to some friends far away......but first, to get their addresses, because in these days of emails, we don't keep up with mailing addresses........ Glad to know that my blog has given you a resolution to write to some friends far away. I consider this as a great achievement for me. Thanks Lulu for your new resolution. Lulu. I still write long letters to my dear relatives. They read the letters and also make replies regularly.Hope you will be able to collect the addresses of your relatives soon. Thanks once again for your visit as well as for your kind comments. Best wishes and regards.

Look, Each one is really free to choose whatever one likes, it doesn't really bother me cause I do and I use what is really convenient to me, regardless of others opinion and choice. I just live and do according to my modern era. And concerning the Human communication of the future, technology-wise, it will always move forward and will not draw back but human communication physical-wise, does and will always depend on how human behaves in their communication towards one another because the same slap in return shouldn't hurt and one must not also expect in "A hen's egg to find a duckling" !!. That's what the quote says. Clear understanding to all good readers. Regards. Lisa.

However ,at the same time, I like to be a bit old fashioned too! I would always like the old way of face to face communication more than anything!
