A Point to Ponder Upon-------Whosoever might have uttered it!!

Whose quote is it---- Bishop Desmond Tutu or Jomo Kenyatta? I am confused. Who is the real narrator? Is it not similar to what Chief Pontlac, the American Indian, had uttered long time before?

Is there any truth hidden in it?

Good morning look ~ the quote comes from Desmond Tutu (courtesy wikipedia). The quote/comment is portent? with meaning yet I was struck by the irony as he himself became a man of the cloth.

Thanks for the meaningful comment left here on my post by your good self. I am in full agreement with your views, boogie ! Such conversions only lead to wars and destruction of cultures as well as human lives!
Have a sunny day.

I don't think that the truth is hidden at all. It is plainly apparent and it is the truth.

Delighted to see you back here on my post and thanks for the comments left there on by you! I appreciate. Best wishes.

lilium,
Good Morning lilium--- Thanks for the information and also for visiting my blog page which I appreciate very much! Appended is the exact quote from Chief Pontlac, the American Indian:
Quote They came with a Bible and their religion---Stole our land, crushed our spirt……And now tell us we should be thankful to the “Lord” for being SAVED…. Unquote.
Could you please tell me from whom they were saved???
Have a bright day.

lilium. No problem. you need not apologies for anything..
I do not mind who said it first. I simply ponder upon the inherent truth in it... Nothing else, lilium!

Hi Look: I don't think churches or religions can steal property from people, but before we had immigration laws about relocating to other countries, settlers just moved to a country and then they just proceeded to take over everything and the original inhabitants were either killed or just pushed out of their land. I read about the history of South Africa and also the history of New York City and it's just awful how this take over of land and everything else happened. Here in Canada, the native American Indians were slaughtered and the ones who survived now live on Indian Reservations. It's so shameful.

Thank you look. In answer to your question who were they saved from, I don't know, supposedly from themselves I would think. I would imagine there are others here better placed to answer that question. I hope the following excerpt helpful.

'Missionaries - those shock troops of the Christian world - have always operated on the front line between cultures and societies. They've often been the way we found out about the rest of the world, and the rest of the world found out about us. The missionary legacy, born of men and women driven by faith, power, or fame, divides between cultural enrichment and colonial exploitation.
Missionaries represent the best and the worst in the history of Europe's contact with the rest of the world. Many of them have been saints and heroes - men and women of great heroism and deep conviction, ready to undergo extraordinary privations and often to risk death.
Many have been deeply flawed, corrupted by pride and prejudice, driven by the lust for fame and fortune as much as faith. Their legacy is an equally divided mixture of cultural enrichment and colonial exploitation'. [Edward Stourton presents an audio journey in the footsteps of the missionaries BBC]

Yes, appreciate who said it first isn't what really matters, cheers

I am deeply moved reading your views, bijou! Never seen or talked to anyone in my life who could tell the truth without fear or favor like you so easily. I agree with you that neither the church nor the religions could steal properties from people. Have a colorful and happy week!

Thanks for trying to make me understand everything threadbare. These people never understood why the ancient Civilizations and cultures should have been preserved and retained as they where while the shock troopers were busy to destroy such cultures and civilizations in the different parts of the world pretending differently! Hope to see you in future lilium here in my post whenever a new post would be uploaded! Have a nice and colorful week. Best Regards.

boogie,
No boogie, it was not my intention to discuss any thing which relates to ISIL or any other radical off shoots of any religions as mentioned by you. I never believed in such things in my life. I believe in world peace. I believe in such a life where persons practicing different faiths Could live side by side peacefully in future. Thanks once again boogie for everything!. Have a nice and delightful week!

akamatt,
I understand. It is besides the point. It has nothing to do with the subject of this blog. I believe in peace. People of different faiths should practice their religions side by side as being done in USA. Wish it happens everywhere in the world. Thanks for visiting my blog akamatt. Have a nice week.

Thanks look, my apologies for not putting as much time as would have liked in earlier response, long day and tired. I would just like to briefly add I think ignorance very much plays a part in the zeal to convert. I think Christ's words as he hung dying on the cross just as relevant today; that we are all deeply flawed, Christian and non-Christian alike - 'Father, forgive them for they know not what they do'.
