When is America going to war?

Rhetorical question actually.

Politicians are fools to promise that America will always stay out of wars. Since 9/11/2001, the wars have come to us. -Actually, long before that. Our current enemies declared war on us during the Clinton Administration. (If u factor in Iran, then it started under Carter.)

Once an enemy has declared war on us, like it or not, we are at war. We may choose not to fight, but that doesn't mean we aren't at war. The war is happening even if we try to pretend it's not.

Politicians can STRIVE to avoid wars, but they can't promise to stay out of them.

So once we find ourselves at war, we need to decide how to cope with it.

Personally I'm in favor going on the offensive in today's world. Any diplomacy or negotiations broke down years ago. At this point it just encourages those who want to destroy us. They see nothing to lose by continued aggression, and nothing to gain by stopping. We need to enlighten them.

I'd give specific names to our enemies. -ISIS, Al Queda, etc,, and it would include the names of any other organizations with the intent of harming us or our allies. Ultimately it may include some other nations too.

I'd be extremely cautious about trusting those peoples for whom there may be enemies of ours in their midst, whether identified or not. (Yes, I believe in profiling.)

I'd take great pains to minimize collateral damage, but wouldn't feel guilty for those we inflict. Our enemies AIM for innocent people, and if innocents must die, I'd rather it be on their side than ours. So bombing would be done surgically, but more often I'd use small cells of infiltrating troopers, many of them undercover operatives, and crossing borders would be a minimal concern.

JMHO and GBU all,

Gavin

It's hard to remember when in our lifetimes we have not been at war. Technology has changed the mechanics of war and semantics have changed how we describe the fighting but a rose by any other name..................

It's a war alright, but not the same as those The US fought before.
It's the same war of cultures and religion, the world have fought them since the first crusades and even before that.
No one has yet to win. will we ever learn?

I know how this current war started, just don't know how It's going to end.

It started in the fifties, with both Israel and Iran. Not in the way most people think. It was not our goal, just a perceive result by Muslims.
Through our actions in Israel and Iran(the most western Muslim culture)
It became evident to Islamic power, those who controlled government and those clerics who controlled religion, the West was destroying their culture, destroying their power, destroying their religion. Not by war, but an invasion of ideas. That they had to convince all muslims the ideas were from the Devil. They had no other way to combat this, except to create the enemy. That's what they did.
We have been playing into their hand ever since, and continue to do so.

    Quoting Adolpho:
What do you propose? Wholesale bombing of neighborhoods? Wouldn't your idea do more to alienate and aid recruiting? If you have a clear view to a remedy, why don't you join the military?...or perhaps the leaders of affected nations would welcome yout input.
Hi Adolpho

Thanks for commenting.

Just a point of order: So far no one has suggested wholesale bombing of neighborhoods. I'm the only one who suggested a military strategy, and my idea was for surgical strikes and small hit squads.

Gavin

Personally I don't care if we offend radical Islamists by calling them radical Islamists. If that's derogatory, then good!

If some Christians were killing people in the name of Christianity then I'd call them radical Christians too!

I'm just not concerned about hurting their feelings. If we never did anything to offend them, they'd find or create something to be offended about, and they'd also use it as a recruitment tool.

Gavin

Maizie!

Thank you for this and all your comments here! You have a solid grasp of the problems we face and I agree that we need to start taking some REAL action.

Altho in fairness here, I'm not sure Adolpho was blaming us for radical Islam. He may, but I didn't get that from the comment you responded to with this statement.

GBU,

Gavin

Are you negating what they do, or are you trying to negate how we should feel about it.

If it's the first, then you can go to hell and join Adolpho.

That shouldn't bother you, since you don't believe it exists.

Point of order:

According to VA statistics, most of the suicides committed by veterans are among older vets, a majority who served in the Vietnam war.

Not saying this refutes your claim about comparing the numbers with that of Muslims killing soldiers, only that it sheds a drastic new light on it. Vietnam vets were treated terribly upon their return to the USA, compared to American soldiers from any other war. That probably accounts for the difference.
