If my understanding is correct, it was a Christian owned bakery that found itself in much controversy for having declined to make wedding cake at the request of gay client. The bakery apparently closed down after the owners decided not to renew the lease. Stating as Christians they have a sincere love for people; as artists they need the inspiration to make something special for their clients and when a request goes against their beliefs, inspiration isn't there and they felt it important the paying customer know that [quote]. In a way I can relate to the couple - for them it was important their relationship with God and/or conscience not jeapordised through dubious compromise, and speaking as an amateur dabbler, inspiration would be affected. My understanding is they declined the request as opposed to bluntly rejecting out of hand. Not good business practice (declining) but I do respect them for their integrity. Not so 'cut & dried'.

Hi Skariff: Since they don't want to violate their religious beliefs, maybe it would be best if Christian store owners consult the Bible and not cherry pick what sins are or are not acceptable to their religion. That way each customer would then be properly scrutinized for any violation of sins or commandments. OMG that woman is taking birth control pills, that one had an abortion, that man took the lords name in vain, no cupcakes for those sinners.

    Quoting  :

I agree, surprising reactions. I would add -ok I didn't read the whole story, but I get what happened: in fact the same thing, history repeats....the location is only different maybe;- so I would add that for me the question is rather: why did they do that, with simple response: just another example of discrimination, marginalization -why don't the go in their ghetto, as reflected here, and stop bothering us, the better, the non-sinners (which is plein delusional). And the fundamentals are: human rights, period. Therefore we should go get much more insight than all the above, including we should protect and care for the gays more than ever, obviously. It's late, maybe not well articulated, but I hope the point is clear. Oh, this has nothing to do with religion, but with bigotry, once more, "beautifully" maintained and perpetuated. Oh, the last one, it recall the homobphoc statement by one of the daughters of the ultra religious reality show 19 and counting, the Duggars,....Bravissimo!! lol

Obviously still shocked, forgot as well: doesn't it recall mainly, before the WWII: the Jews couldn't get in some stores; here, the blacks couldn't get in buses, (Rosa Park's story), or here and there...the signifier yellow star, would be replaced for the gays in some "christians" stores with what color? maybe it's where your question: how can they recognize ...comes to it's full powerful sense.
