I must say I would be lost without my Samsung Galaxie A5 smartphone. But I don't sit at the dinner table and text and whatever else one can do on their cell phone. I have a friend who doesn't have a cell phone and I must say the odd time I wish she did so we could connect when we are meeting up. Sometimes you might be late and I cannot call her so she will have to sit and wait for me. But you make your choices and that is what you do. I understand where you are coming from Fossil. I don't think cell phone should be allowed at the dinner table.

I use mine for absolutely everything including an on going grocery list and monitoring the security cams at my house in town. I take pictures, do email, web searches, get driving directions, bank, pay bills etch. on the go. This in addition to regular phone calls texts and Skype. I haven't had a land line in about 10 years.

This one little thing has replaced several gadgets so is well worth the learning curve stay up date. Admittedly though I am still out and doing business in the mainstream so really need to keep up more than most seniors. Smart phones really suit my on the go, usually itinerant lifestyle

Like you, my mobile phone [pre-paid] is essentially for emergency use only. Generally I only check to see if sufficient credit left / in need of 'top up'.

No smart phone for Joe and me, we both have simple flip phones. I use mine several times a day for texts and calls and yes, it is within reach when we eat at home.
Sometimes, I turn it off if we are in a restaurant.

I have a Samsung and use it often (certainly rely on it) but never bring it to the dinner table. The same applies at a restaurant, although the phone is handy in my purse and if it does ring, I can always see whether it is family or not. Otherwise, it doesn't get answered and I never answer calls in my car, even though I did purchase Bluetooth years ago. I must admit I do like to keep current with techologyy!! OMG they still have flip phones??

Frenchsalsa you and I share the same kind of phone. Even though I am not always the best at technology I try to keep up with it. I certainly would be lost without my computer and cell phone. Having a cell phone gives me a feeling of security when I am out and about. Now that they have changed the rules for contracts from 3 years to 2 I get to update my phone every two years.

Yes, Shartaun, I agree! Those who never have a need for a cell phone or only use one for emergencies only, can't seem to understand those of us who do find security in having one I also have the extra security of a password & fingerprint.

    Quoting  :

We need to develop some system of etiquette for talking on mobile phones.

I find them very irritating.

Amtrak has banned their use.

I hope airports set up separate rooms for mobile phone usage just as they once had for smokers.

If they got all of them into one room, perhaps they would realize how annoying they are.
