I admit that it continues to surprise me that so many people born in North America whine about their lot in life when immigrants such as my parents come here with little education and no English, and manage to achieve a decent standard of living.

Granted things weren't always beer and skittles growing up, but all three sons moved up the social ladder into the middle class.

Perhaps my views are simplistic - after all I am but an occasional visitor to the US and spend time with people of my own class.

I form my opinions on what I see while there, and media sources.

Having said that, it still strikes me odd that people living in the richest country in the world whine so much about their personal lot in life.
