......After watching my Gson play baseball in Cooperstown NY over the web via webcam this past week, I was struck by the fact that legend says the game of baseball started there. The National Baseball Hall of Fame is located there. Its an impressive building dedicated to preserving the history and enshrinement of the greatest players to ever play the game. That being said its missing one. People say the hardest thing to do in sports is hit a round ball with a round bat. Pete Rose did it best and has more hits than anyone who ever played Major League baseball. He was selected to 17 all star games in an unprecedented 5 different positions. "Charlie Hustle" played the game like no other before him and no one since. Having admitted he had gambled on games as a Manager its now time for him to be inducted. The Hall of Fame in Cooperstown needs to be complete. It would be shameful to keep denying him his rightful place among those hallowed walls....
By the way the boy did quite well going 18 for 22 of which 12 were home runs in the 8 games his team participated in. can't wait to see what he does when he's 13...........
....Wouldnt it be grand to have a car that runs on water. Oh yeah? what if we have a drought?

I *RESPECTFULLY * disagree .... it was HIS choice to gamble..he KNEW it was against the rules and what the outcome would be IF he got caught..he GOT Caught ! ..and then lied about it for years...he got caught red handed..*so to speak* lol lol...if he is to be in the hall of fame ..you should CHANGE The rule first ....THEN induct him...but..gambling on games..and especially your own games is a LIFETIME ban..and HE KNEW IT ...if you cant pay the time ?..dont do the crime.. just my opintion tho...yes there are worse things than gambling...but..THOSE WERE AND STILL ARE THE RULES... he knew it too...

Why not. If it bothers some, they could add a Wall of Shame. Recognize his talents as well as recognize his faults.

In the old chapel at West Point there are plaques for all the past commanders of West Point. One of the plaques is blacked out but still up there on the wall. That commander --- Traitor, Benedict Arnold. Maybe they could use a similar approach for Pete Rose in the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Sorry Rich,
You're and honorable man, but Pete Rose is an arrogant SOB not worthy of a honorable place at Cooperstown. Sure, he was a terrific ball player, but his characterless greed over rides his athletic achievements, thus disqualifying him from that place of honor. I am in concert with Hearfelt.
God bless your grandson, and may he be a Hall of Famer!

Well we give a pass to the steroid users, and don' take the records away from them...I guess it's real hard for man to forgive. I'm glad that God does.

the hard heartedness ofsoime amazes me. Mayor od D.C Marion Barry goes to jail for cocaine, gets out and gets elected again, On and on .... people forgive. Pete Rose paid his price, why take away his legit credits, perhaps with the sidebar that he had to step down for gambling.

....;Hey Ed good to see you, Well you are right but I was just thinking about his performance as a player. Anyway if he is ever inducted they could put him up beside another arrogant sob Ty Cobb.

Heartfelt. Of course the knew the rules, but there is no evidence he broke those rules as a player. I guess I am a little more liberal on this than some. how Ironic for me......

The baseball Hall of Fame is entered by a players accomplishments on the playing field. There has never been any indication or evidence that he gambled on the games as a player. He should be in the Hall for what he accomplished as a player. It is very hard to take a round baseball bat and hit a round baseball coming at you around 90 miles an hour, but he did it, and did it more times than anybody else.
Gambling on baseball games as a manager has nothing to do with his accomplishments as a player on the field. Nobody is trying to get him in the Hall as a manager, just as a player.
Was he wrong to gamble on baseball games as a manager, sure he was, nobody denies that. No Dan, no sidebar for gambling, nothing to indicate he gambled as a player. He may be an arrogant SOB as Alpha2000 says, but if you consider him that, you also have to consider him an arrogant SOB with the most hits in baseball history.

.....It should be noted in this argument that the Baseball Hall of Fame is a seperate entity of MLB. Players are not inducted by anyone in MLB but are voted on by the baseball writers of America. The only thing the HOF does it put names on a ballot.
