My question is no different that others: Why, what has he done?" I focus on achievement, not well wishes, not good intentions.

It is the right of the Nobel Prize committee to award it to whom the choose to. Not because there will whiners to be unhappy about it.
Snoopy isn't a whiner!

Bye for now! Thank you! .♥. ♫ ♥ ♫ ♥ DENVER ♫¨♥ .♫ ♥ ♫

Hi Rich. My feelings are very similar to Mrsjoe's. It is possible that, at some future date, President Obama may deserve to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. But I don't feel that now is that time. Every other Nobel prize -- for physics, chemistry, medicine or physiology, literature, or economics -- is awarded for significant achievement in that discipline. The awarding of the Peace Prize seems, to me at least, to be far more politically motivated than for accomplishments already achieved. While, as an American I am proud that the recipient of the most significant of the Nobel Prizes is American, I am somewhat embarrassed by the fact that nothing has been achieved to date to merit the awarding of that prize. The bottom line would seem to me to be that the significance and stature of the award is lessened as a result of such awarding.

I tend to agree that its too soon ~ across the world he has spoken and more importantly been listened too by every religious body and every nation
world peace can not come from a gun, only fear and loathing
his speeches are well received and he has charisma that draws all nationalities to take heed , he is the only leader holding out an olive branch to the enemies of the west and I'm sure in future years he will be seen as an outstanding peacemaker ( maybe even in the usa)

The nations that are so in awe of our President are not those whom we have reason to fear. They have not been nor are they now a threat to world peace and security. I seriously doubt that Bin Ladin and his followers and the radicals in Iran and Palestine are impressed by Obama. I believe this award was a grievious error as rhetoric does not make peace. Although I do not compare President Obama with Hitler, one must remember Hitler's rhetoric convinced many and his rise to power was accompanied by many cheers.
I believe this award should be given for achievement and not for wishful thinking or inspiring words, especially since many of those words were those of many speech writers. Perhaps those writers should receive the Nobel Peace Prize!
Of course we have seen such rhetoric before. Read my lips - lol.

I heard he beat out osama bin ladin??? thank you for providing a blog open to all. "Friends only" tend to be overly biased and full of half truths. I guess some people can't take criticism well.

What has Obama earned for the Prize. He don't even write his own speeches. He tells people what they want to hear concerning the problems that are going on at the time. He promised he was going to withdraw troops..did he...NO...matter of fact he is sending more men and women from the US in harms way. Has he ever served in the military? (N I am like everyone else what has he done to deserve anything must less the prize. He didn't even pay for his own education. Obama has had a free ride all of his life and still has one. I am not a gullable person to believe one word he says, he will have to show me by actions. He has not shown me nothing as of yet.

I agree with Denver......It was the Nobel committee's prize to give away to whomever they choose......they don't have the obligation to please the American whiners......ditto with the Olympic committee......

Obama doesn't deserve the prize because he hasn't done anything yet. Maybe in the future, he will deserve the prize, but the jury is still out. I, personally, was stunned when they awarded him the prize so prematurely.
I celebrate myself today. I am alive and growing. I will strive to be the best I can be each and every day.

60min: Since my opinion/feelings on this subject are not clearly at one end - or the other - of the spectrum of opinion, I've chosen to NOT make a vote in this poll... but, instead, to offer this opinion...

Just the fact alone that he was willing to run for Presidency, makes him in my eyes, worthy of the prize.

Mr. Obama's take on winning the prize as being a "call to action" is about the only spin that could be put on it. There were over 170 nominees and the prize does put a bit of pressure on him with the call to build up troops in war-torn countries. It is going to be interesting.....
