Agree and I would lack common sense and acceptance of personal responsibility so prevalent in today's society.

Right or wrong we are not invincible. In this case it turned out to be one of those "dead wrong" decisions. Kind of like "you don't tug on superman's cape......." If you are on foot and unarmed common sense says don't physically challenge someone in a large vehicle, with a weapon and in a position of authority. It's shut up, duck and cover time. In the end the individual with the most power has the advantage and there are other ways to deal with anger than physical confrontation. Life is not a video game and you can't "reboot".

Personally I have had both wonderful and awful experiences with authority, including law enforcement. When my kids were teens I tried to teach them that if you are challenged, even if unfairly, just shut up, cooperate and we'll sort the right and wrong out later in court. On one occasion we did just that, even though it meant 3 months 6 court appearances. Why? becasue it is the safest thing to do. Why end up dead just becasue you feel you "have a right".

57Tall great blog and an interesting observation. Being a cop is a tough job. They are dammed if they do and dammed if they don't. We had a recent incident when a young Vietnamese boy was shot as he was waving a wooden plank in the air and causing a disturbance and being very irrational. He was instructed by the police to lower it and he refused to comply. He could have hurt someone very badly with it. Obviously there was some mental problem here. How does a cop make a judgement call on this as they are having to make a split decision?
