My latest case of credit card fraud

I lost my main credit card earlier in the week and didn't notice it was missing until the next morning.

So I immediately went online to check the account.

There were four charges totaling around $150 after I last used it.

I called Mastercard to report it, and they cancelled the card.

One of the charges was at a gas station that has cameras, so they might get something from that.

I told the gas station attendant and gave him the details so he could check it out when the 33 bucks gets charged back. He said the camera system is not foolproof. People out to defraud the use all sorts of tricks not to be identified. But if they can get a place number, perhaps they can nail the guy.

My card was one of those tap-and-go ones, so it's easy for another person to use so long as it's under $50. I am thinking of switching back to one that requires a PIN to be entered. It's less convenient, but at least it will prevent fraud if I lose it.

I'm not going to get hit for the illegal transactions, but the whole thing is an annoyance.

I keep hearing about this happening to more and more people, sorry to hear it happened to you also. I think I'll go back to using cash again, it might be inconvenient for some purchases, but the only way someone will get money from me is if they mug me!

Perhaps you could recommend a good psychiatrist for me to help me straighten my attention deficit disorder.

All advice welcome and will be give the consideration it deserves.

Sorry to hear that Rentier. It's a pain to straighten things out but I'm glad it didn't cost you. I hope they catch the crook.

I dislike those 'tap & go' credit cards for that very reason!!

Grrrrrrrr...............

btw: When travelling the Washington State last Spring, I found that all the restaurants wanted to take my credit card over to their till in order to process my bill.

Doesn't the US have the portable machines that are brought to your table like we have in Canada?
