I'm no racist, but.... Has it escaped anyone's notice that the vast majority of the people who caused the mortgage meltdown are White males? What is it about my race and gender that causes such behaviour? Is it genetic? Do we inherit some recessive gene down through the White male line that encourages greed at the expense of others? |

This is my opinion on current conditions. Best thing is that we are a multi-cultural country where people from different parts of the globe live together peacefully, by and large. This largely attributable to history and geography. Canada had no colonies as England and France, so no great masses of people arrived on t hat basis. Canada has been selective on who it lets in, and this prevents any one group from becoming so large as to cause social disruption and resentment. Worst things are: - Our recent conversion to sending Canadian soldiers to far off places to kill people. - Our less than stellar environmental record - The conditions that exist on many aboriginal reserves. The French-English contretemps is quiet at the moment.

If my memory serves me correctly, you like the dividends that you are receiving from your "investments." I guess that puts you in the same category as other greedy white males. I'm a slave of my genetic structure just like any other White male of privilege.

Neither Political Affiliation nor Christianity were ever mentioned in the blog. Great job of trying to change the subject. Rentier you are correct in your premise that the majority are white males but I don't think that they have monopoly on being greedy, There were women, black males, Chinese, and yes even the American consumer that helped in the mortgage meltdown. Even Bill Clinton had his hands in the Process. In 1995 Clinton loosened housing rules by rewriting the Community Reinvestment Act, which put added pressure on banks to lend in low-income neighborhoods. Greed is definitely a equal opportunity employer. White male. QED.

And it's about time the White male community took responsibility for its behaviour, and did something about it. We can't rely on others to fix our problems. No amount of government welfare will stop further tragedies of this sort. One would have thought we would have learned from the S & L scandal back in the 80's and learned to police our own community.

My take would be that white males have had a longer history of running the show in business and politics, therefore a longer history of established connections in higher education --> business and networking opportunities and would therefore be heavily represented in the business bubble that collapsed, as well as in the political world which gave us laws facilitating this disaster. Certainly there were other complex factors involved in the collusion. Do a search on psychopathy among CEOs, lawyers (I'd say this includes some lawmakers and politicians), salespersons. Then find Margaret Heffernan's article called "Are CEOs Psychopaths?" And then think about one aspect of psychopathy--fearlessness, the degree to which it is valued in certain professions, and then the double-edged sword which that quality can be.

Nothing to do with genes. More related to the fact that white males still occupy most of the positions of financial power in most western societies, which include both the US and Canada. Spiritwoman ^i^

I'm not a racist either but did anyone notice that prior to the 2014 election every Republican was a white Christian.
