Ye Olde Double Standarde

The downing of a civilian airplane in Ukrainian airspace is getting a lot of coverage.
We don't know who did it, and yet various people are already calling for sanctions and other punishments.

Why was there not the same amount of outrage over Iran 655?

In that case the shooter was known, and it took place in Iranian airspace.

I do not recall the same amount of outrage in the western media.
What sanctions were taken against the US?
If anything, Iran 655 was more flagrant.
A US Navy battle ship mistook an airliner for a F-14?
What kind of technology were they using? 1930's radar?
Was there an AWAC's in the area?

The excuse for shooting at MH is more credible.
I can easily believe that a bunch of semi-trained Russian-Ukrainian thugs mistook a civilian airliner for a Ukrainian air force transport.

Of course I am not saying it's OK, or that we should not complain.
Don't try to put words in my mouth.

Address the point I am making, and not the one you wish I had made.
I DO recall it. And the USA paid millions in reparations to families of the deceased.

I didn't have to put words in your mouth. I merely had to point out the silliness of the ones you spoke, and what you are trying to imply.

And I was RIGHT ON POINT!

GBU,

Gavin

Since we don't know what happened, I don't know what the Russians are supposed to own up to.

Certainly they should admit they are backing the rebels, but nations rarely admit to such misdeeds.

I doubt very much that Poland will be annexed since it was never annexed in the first place. Poland certainly was under the thumb of the Sovs, but it was never part of the USSR, unlike the Baltic countries.

If the Russians tried to annex Poland, there would be war, and not for the first time, between the two.

Poland stopped the Reds in the 1920's, quite possibly could do it again.

Great logic. By that rationalization, because someone else has intentionally or negligently harmed someone else, somewhere else, I should be justified or excused if I harm you?

Don't worry. I'm not interested in harming you or anyone else. But ur point is irrelevent.

Why its the same thing you do on every blog you respond to!
Probably because you keep dodging the issue.

Did you forget Korean Air Flights 007 and 902 or were you just looking for American mistakes???
You might try addressing the point of the blog rather than scurrying off elsewhere to avoid answering.

Same warning to you.

Keep it civil.

No insulting anyone but me.

Referring to another poster as 'boy' is, to my mind, the first step towards invective.

Given your track record, my suspicion is reasonable, and therefore the warning.

That it was shot down in its own airspace because of carelessness?

Lovely synopsis, but that's not really the issue, is it?
