Intolerance Canadian Style .....In some of my blogs I have been told repeatably that Canadians are more tolerant than Americans when it comes to diversity issues. I do not believe that for an instant. I believe prejudices are just as prevalent in Canada as they are in the United States........ ......Ontario resident Christopher Moorhouse was fined $200 recently for Provincial trespass concerning an incident that occurred during an NHL exhibition game in London. Seems as though Mr Moorhouse lobbed a banana at Philadelphia Flyers forward Wayne Simmonds as he was approaching Detroit Red Wings goalie Jordan Pearce during a shootout in the Sept. 22 game in London Ontario. In that the Flyer forward was black the incident was considered racist....Police said there wasn't enough evidence to charge Moorhouse with a hate crime. Moorhouse's lawyer, Faisal Joseph, has said his didn't know hurling bananas at black athletes could be seen as hateful or racist...... ......I am sure that there are many other incidents of Canadian intolerance just like there are here in America. I don't particularly like it when Canadians always remind me how bad we are in the lower 48 compared to how enlightened they are up there..... Its time to start reading the Bible, It will scare the Hell out of you... |

You are an idiot...a banana never killed anyone..though a player might trip...at least we're not dodging bullets. You sure had to dig for a long long time to find anything that might closely justify your little mind..holding back on what I really want to say. I thank all I believe in that I live in this wonderful country. I don't throw rocks at your country..try to be a gentleman and not throw any at mine.

60minman, you have really done it this time and yes, I agree with the few remarks made here. Thanks Roseslady and Morgana. Ladies and Gentlemen, 60minman isn't worth the bother. He doesn't know any better. If he spent any of his precious time outside of his own country (like Canada) for any length of time he might change his mind .... naaaa on second thought, he might NOT! LOL 60minman, we've been through similar insulting behaviour from you in the past and it seems you're getting worse at it. Give it up and do something more proactive with your so-called precious time!!!!

Having lived in both Canada and the US it is my observation is that the legal issue is very atypical. I found Canada to be much more diverse and accepting of differences than the US. But - Canadians do take their hockey far more serious than we do here in the US. Throwing a banana would be pretty mild behavior even if the recipient were a purple fire breathing space alien with a ray gun that disintegrated humans! Spiritwoman ^i^

fenchsalsa Please explain to me how a racial act commited by a Canadian citizen is insulting behavior by me? I consider your comment to me on what I should do or not do with my time as a very insulting and hateful comment. Being to much a gentleman I would never tell you what to do with your time. Rich I will be attending one tomorrow night as the Hurricanes will be playing the Flyers. Do you think I should throw a banana at the same player? Rich the teams involved were not Canadian franchises, and yes I was a winger in High School. It was a racit act as it was thrown not toward any random player but was specifically thrown at a black player during a shootout........Have a nice day my friend. mmmm a Goalie huh? Should I go high, stick side or five hole.... Its time to start reading the Bible, It will scare the Hell out of you...

Hi 60: Who knows what evil thoughts lurk deep inside people's hearts regardless of what country they live in. I grew up in a family full of racists, so you may be right. Sorry this isn't about your blog topic, but when I was about 9 yrs old, my best friend was a neighbourhood boy named Danny. He practically lived at our house for years and we all loved him, then one day his grandparents were visiting from out of town and we met them. My parents almost died of shock  because both of Danny's grandparents were black, although his parents looked white and so did their children, just a little sun tanned. From that day on, my racist parents forbid us to ever play with Danny again. What an eye opener that was for me about racism and how evil and totally stupid it is for one person to think they are any better than anyone else.

Thanks DayDream believer and Bijou you are so right as racism knows no bounds and is seen everywhere. It cannot be legislated away. The most effective way of dealing with it IMHO is through education. Its time to start reading the Bible, It will scare the Hell out of you...

We certainly have intolerance in Canada, but it's largely directed towards French Canadians and aboriginals. In past decades, Chinese, Japanese, and Jews suffered discrimination. The KKK was pretty popular in Saskatchewan in the 30's. I'm not sure who their bete noire was because I doubt there were many Blacks there at the time.

I agree that throwing a banana on the ice is racist. It's no different than the octopi that were thrown on the ice in the old days to insult Greek hockey players.

Roseslady..... It comforts me to know that you have followed my writings for so long. Such devotion in reading my Blogs humbles me greatly. Point well taken 60minman. Trust me, we are not all goody two shoes for sure. As for the bannana, well put it in the freezer for a while, and see the distance you can get with it. We are a peace loving country, and I will beat the sh** out of any one who says we arn't.
