Years ago when I was a Senior Girl Scout (high school age) our leader had us all sit in a circle. She told us to learn about gossip. She wispered something to the first person, they were then to whisper something in the ear of the person next to them one time. That person was to repeat exactly what they heard. As it went around the circle with each person repeating exactly what they heard....the last person was to say what they heard. It was funny, they did not say what was originally said. I wish I could remember what it was but I do remember, it was just a simple statement, something like I went to the store to buy bread and saw a can of corn. So gossip does tend to get very fouled up in repeated telling!

I love gossip! Particularly if it's about me.

Gossip causes more break-ups of relationships than anything else. If you don't have anything good to say about a person, don't say anything! Alfie...

I don't go to chat so don't know what happens there but I agree with Masie's analysis that what we see here is sniping and personal attacks. I am not sure about the spirited debate part though becasue what I see that could be that in a better environment deteriorates to the sniping or personal attack within the first interchange or 2. I also see all sorts of what I call provocation and verbal assaults on anyone who disagrees. Spiritwoman ^i^

Hi Doug! I was missing you. I also hate gossip, and agree with Alfie: "If you don't have anything good to say about a person, don't say anything!"

I hope not. Negative gossip about me is the best sort.
