~~~Another loss & Another blessing!~~~
For those that have known me these last 5 or 6 yrs, you may remember the tragedy in Mexico when someone poisoned my 2 outside dogs.... I was so devastated about the event although I still had my indoor that some caring friends gifted me with a little maltese/poodle mix named Chiques....She was a blessing and really helped me heal from the loss....
When I returned to the states I brought both her and Little Girl home with me..... I loved both of them but I have to admit that Chiques was my favorite... she was so small and loved to snuggle with me and was just a character and a half.... unfortunately just about a year ago she started having problems keeping her food down.... as a small they often have what they call a reverse sneeze which looks as if they are choking.... my regular vet kept telling me that was the problem.... although as her 'mom' I just knew there was something else going on....
I won't tell the whole long story but after almost $3,000 in vet bills I found out she had a growth outside of her esophagus that wasn't allowing her food to get to her stomach.... took her to a specialist and was told I was looking at a $5000 surgery with no guarantees because she was such a small dog..... anyway, the inevitable time came when I had to make the decision to let her go.... I don't know that I have been anymore heartbroken in my life than when I had her put to sleep.... all I have left are memories, her ashes and her pawprint in clay.... I have told my family that when my time comes I want her ashes buried with me.... the one and only surviving picture I have of her is not that great but you can get the idea of what she looked like...
Because of that loss I started searching for another small a few months later and ended up adopting a little yorkie mix from our local "PAWS" a no kill shelter... His name is Max and although he is very different, he has brought a lot of joy and laughs.... he was very frightened when I first adopted him and it took several weeks before he was able to relax and show his true personality.... now he thinks he owns the place....lol....
Sorry for the loss of your wonderful dog, Chiques. Though one dog can't replace another in your heart, I am happy you have Max. Cliques was very cute and so is Max.
Hi Elaine... thanks for commenting... you are right.. another dog will never replace Chiques but Max brings a lot of laughs and joy of his own....
Sorry for the typo. I meant Chiques, of course.
