.............. and she persisted

Although not in the sense of the current political interpretation. I still find that stuff way too mean spirited to participate in.

Just dropping by to say hi and to brag with grandmother's pride. My oldest granddaughter exhibited in her first art show and won second prize. This was after winning her school competition to qualify to compete in the district wide one. I should not be so surprised. Even as a pre schooler she would follow me around and tell me she was going to be an artist "just like Nona". Later she took art lessons for 3 years and is now attending a magnet high school for arts and sciences. She and a friend have their own channel on "the tube" as a school project. No, she is not neglecting her academics. She remains in advanced placement classes in English, math and science. 4.0 average. aiming for UCLA or West Point. My sense is that it will be UCLA becasue I am not sure how well arts fit in in the military.

She also follows in my footsteps with respect to silliness. At the reception / awards ceremony for the art exhibit she arrived late with her boyfriend both dressed in the silliest but accurate outfits to be Hollywood art critics. They played the part, videoing everything with her father's expensive camera including amazingly appropriate commentary. Unlike most age girls she is brimming with the self confidence to be herself.

I remain cocooned in my canyon doing my all to keep the current negative energies at bay. I am creating in hyperdrive and have several projects going at once. Following the blessing of heavy rains the yards at all 3 houses have turned into jungles forcing me to graduate from a simple gardener to a landscaper. Two completely under control and replanted with one partially done. Got the foundations in for my storage buildings at my residence facility. The buildings should arrive next week then we can play with them like giant Legos to assemble the things. The van is gutted other than the captain's seats and second row. The foam for the bed has been purchased, cut and covered. Window coverings complete. The lake is full to capacity so we will be taking the first trip there soon as a test run to see what other modifications we will need for the basic camper / travel van. The property is cleaned up and pretty much pristine so this will be a true camping trip. I replaced my inflatable Zodiac so the will have something to cruise around in. No ski boats yet but my has an old one in storage we may revive. We will be venturing into the outside world next with 2 free nights and dinners at the MGM grand in Vegas from cashing in my reward points playing games on line when I can't sleep at night.

Health holds up pretty well for old people. Lots of aches and pains and days when things just don't work but as the title implies ............. and she persisted. I refuse to let nasty sociopolitical things, the fire, age and other challenges interfere with enjoying the better things in life that put a smile on my face. The more years we log on the more persistence is needed.

Photos include:
Granddaughter and her BF dressed as art critics with her sketch and second place ribbon

My goddess fabric art. I can't call it a quilt becasue in order to get the effect I wanted I had to suspend many of the quilting rules and guidelines.

A yard decoration I made out of left over items one night when I couldn't sleep

something I " created" to disguise some of the junk I have around for future projects to avoid a clean up letter from the HOA. this and similar efforts works. Spring inspection done and no clean it up letter.

Separate photo is the youngest baby at the family home. He is somewhat of an anomaly in that he was an only . I have never seen a cat have a 1 kitten litter. Mama cat was not too interested in being a mom so my niece and her boyfriend more or less hand raised him. He was born during the election, was large, loud and orange. I named him "Donald". Living up to the name he has taken over the household, tends to ramble around at 3 - 4 AM making himself heard by everyone and will bit your nose while while wrapping his front feet around your neck in a hug.

Hope everyone, their families and loved ones remains happy, health and active.

Nice to see you back on SFF Spirit. This isn't the site it used to be and I don't bother with it too much either. Politics appear to have taken over and if you don't write about them nobody wants to know who you are. Sounds like you are keeping pretty busy over there. See you again sometime.

P.S. I loved the pictures!

Sounds like you are keeping yourself very busy..... I'm sure glad I only have the one yard to do, but with the rainy weather, then cooler weather and high winds, things are getting ahead of me! I noticed today, the grass is waving in the wind like a wheat field!
Grandies add so much to our lives, don't they? We just got to 'keep on keeping on' that's all we can do. If we stop going, we regress, and stagnate!
