Update

A few days ago HiramHank asked about fire clean up in a comment on another blog. I appreciate the interest and concern. I acknowledge that I haven’t been posting much. There are a couple of reasons for this. The primary reason is that following through with my spiritual belief’s practice of withdrawing any form of support or even acknowledgement of things that don’t fit with my true or higher self in I am making a concentrated effort to avoid argument and bullying which on here masquerade as political “discussion”. I have also not been motivated to write much and the past 6 months or so were my usual busy time for my creative work. The fall / holiday season is my busiest. I am also finding that taking care of business to keep things running after taking on the additional things I did this past year keep me busy. So for anyone else wondering here’s how it’s going.

The lake clean up and recovery are going well. John, the “main man” of the property, got the heavy equipment fixed and running. He is amazing. There is nothing he can’t do. Things are more or less suspended due to MUD but we are celebrating because this means plenty of waterfront for the summer as well as much needed help for our severe drought. Destruction by fire and cleansing with rain is one of nature's way of purification.

My real estate stuff is done but the people at my resident facility and at the family home keep me and my sister busy. No major work needed on either house for now but everyone knows how that goes.

The pool is back on track, stabilized and only requires minimal upkeep. As long as I don’t let any pool services mess it up all should be well. The regular maintenance is minimal and neither labor intensive nor rocket science and I found a local pool supply that has people to do any major repairs on an as needed basis.

My art work is at lull in the moment. I am working on one project at the moment, a very large fabric art which can broke down to easily transportable pieces so it can go to and from Mexico with me.

We adults in the family are all healthy and doing well for “old people”. My babies are not babies any more. The twins are strong, amazing young women. One is UCLA and headed for law school. The other will graduate from UC Santa Cruz early. She won’t be going to med school as planned. Her part time fast food job lead to currently employment as a general manager at one store, making more money than her mother, with an upward career path in the business end of the company once she graduates. Granddaughter is in her junior year of high school still in AP classes and looking at following her cousin to UCLA or going to West Point. The 2 youngest go to middle school next year. Great grandson is a thriving 5 year old.

I will be doing my usual February in Mexico in a couple of weeks. It will be interesting to see how people there see the US after all of the political posturing. Depending on how things go relocating to Puerto Vallarta, at least part time during the cooler months, is back on the table for consideration. While I keep an open mind I am not encouraged that things here will improve or at least maintain the status quo here for us seniors, let alone free spirits such as myself. If relocation comes to pass I will likely follow through with the process of obtaining immigrant status there and becoming a dual citizen.

Whether Mexico works out or not I am in the process of preparing my RV for full time living again as well as setting up adequate storage for all of the “stuff”. Even with a place in Mexico I would still want a home here to escape the hot wet summer months in Mexico and be able to be close to family.

The rains have accelerated plant growth, or more like overgrowth, creating lots of gardening and yard work to do in the breaks between storms. Almost like summer in many parts of the country. Chain saw, hedge trimmers and weed wacker time.

Last month I finally got another van (picture attached). To give you a perspective on size the in the photo is a great dane. We are in the process of setting it up for camping and hauling my stuff around. I was able to find exactly what I wanted, a used but low mileage, good condition E350 set up as a passenger van (12 passenger). It will take a bit more work to get it set up for traveling and camping but it will be well worth it. It is already classified as a passenger vehicle so no need to pay commercial registration fees or hassling with the DVM once it is converted. This is definitely a “heavy work” project. Of course I still have the sports car for fun.

Most importantly I am investing more and more energy into staying positive in these difficult times while still trying to figure out where and how to invest myself in things that promote the greater good and keeping all of the swirling negativity, hate and disrespect from intruding and bringing me down. Whatever our view of an appropriate outcome is we can all agree that it is a painful process that needs to happen. My feeling is that either extreme is still viable and it will be a difficult and turbulent road no matter what the outcome. Interesting without a doubt but not an easy passage for any of us.

Good to hear from you again. So nice to see you blogging again. How are things going on the site? I've tried to login a couple of times without success I'm afraid.

Thanks for the update. You sharing your life and struggles here makes me feel like I know you like family, I'm sure many others feel the same. I love the way you are not agressive and just say things about how it's going in your world. Your blogs are always worth reading. Wishing you all the best for the future.

Judgment Day will be interesting - and all paths lead there.

Mexico is always rejuvenating. Every trip there I want to stay but don't like the idea of leaving family. That is what makes the duality sound so inviting.

Will do. Things will probably progress slowly until April or so when camping and road trip travel is eminent. Seems I work best with deadlines.

I'll have to check on the website. It appeared to be working but it is the internet after all.

Life's usual ups and downs. There are still daily bumps in the road but nothing as extensive is last year - at least not so far.

His name is interesting. He came with the name of Brutus but like most great danes he is mellow and silly and the name didn't fit. My daughter changed it to Bruce. The oldest granddaughter changed it to Broc. Apparently BROC is teen speak for a large, congenial silly thing, which this guy definitely is. Broc is what stuck, although we often have to clarify that it is not Barack, although that fits as well.

Whatever he is called he is 160 lbs of pure love and fun.

Definitely - especially at our ages where there seems to be a never ending energy crisis. I like the possibility of several south American locations but Mexico is what I am familiar with and is the easiest to access both as a visitor and in terms of becoming an immigrant. I sat out the turbulence of the late 60's early 70's in Canada. When I returned I never thought I would be reconsidering leaving at this age. As I said we will see how things go in the near future but I definitely want a plan B

Thank you. A life time of work in Spiritual and human services work taught me that the only thing that is a reality for each of us and the only thing we have any control of is our immediate surroundings. One on one in small ways is the only way we make any impact or difference.

I don't know about other sates but in CA it depends on how it is equipped and designed. If it is a work or cargo van it is considered commercial since that is the intended purpose it is designed for. This is true for all pick ups even if they are too small or fancy to be used for work they have to be registered as commercial vehicles. If a van is designed for passenger use (with seats, windows and a few other things) it can registered as non commercial as long as it is not used for business. Those used for things like airport shuttles or school transportation services have to be registered as commercial. My old van started out life as a cargo van then my late husband gutted it and re did the inside as a RV. We then went through one of those frustrating and tedious adventures with the DVM to get it reclassified.

I'm not sure what Chuck will choose to do about immigration status. I suspect he will follow suit if health care gets too bad and / or inaccessible here. As an immigrant you can buy into Mexico's national system for $200 - 600 (American) a year. Like all socialized medicine that covers so much more than any of the US programs. Basic requirements for immigrant status is proof of income of at least $2000.00 (us ) a month and no criminal history. Of course there would be all sorts of paperwork and hoops and a few fees to deal with but if it becomes a necessity for a decent quality of life we all do what we have to do.

The next 6 months to 2 years will set the direction for the life style here for what is likely, at my age, to be the rest of my life. My first choice would be for things to remain comfortable here but no matter which side of the fence we find ourselves on things will be rocky at best. All the recent events have done is further polarize our society and I see the polarization rather than either side's agendas as the threat. Revolutions come about in this manner. This time is different than the 60's becasue we are almost equally divided in ideologies. Everyone is fed up with having others agendas crammed down our throats and no one is likely to go quietly this time. There is too much at stake for either side and neither is willing to compromise.
