Randomness

I’m sharing this for those who have never seen or experienced anything like this. Most have probably seen this on TV. One house totally destroyed but the one next door not damaged. Wild fires are so unpredictable. These are a couple of examples of this from the lake property.

The first one is what is left of a 32 foot RV trailer. Can’t even find an axle left in the small pile of ash. All that remains is the cement posts the deck sat on. Meanwhile the oak tree above it is still green.

The second shows the road grader. The front right has so much damage that the tires completely burned but the rest is untouched and the D9 behind it was untouched.

The last photo is what is left of our old jeep. It is inside of storage building. The building appears to be untouched but all of the contents burned from things getting so hot in there.

This is quite an experience. I've been through this before. One of our barns burnt down when I was a on the farm and a close friend's house burned to the ground and I helped with the clean up and salvage but this one is different.

We do plan to rebuild something on the site but fortunately it is not anyone's main home so we can take our time and toss ideas around. Since the 4 elders of the tribe are seniors we are considering something less labor intensive maintenance wise and more geared to relaxing than accommodating physical and athletic challenges. No rush though. We can take our time cleaning up (probably digging a large hole with the D9 and burying all of the rubble) and if we do nothing we can still camp there next season after the winter rains wash things down and the grasses regrow.

Big job rebuilding some of the vehicles, the wiring would need new harnesess, starter motors, alternators and maybe seals melted around engine, rubber engine blocks melt also. Plastic wiper bottles, rubber window seals etc. What a mess. Dont know what's worth fixing. Hang in there.

Judgment Day will be interesting - and all paths lead there.

Such scenes of devastation, so heartbreaking. I hope that given time you are able to rectify the damage. Best wishes.

It only takes a drop of ink to make a million people think. There are many stories.

Much of it is not worth fixing. Not sure about one of the boats which looks pretty good. Definitely not the jeep. Since the road grader is largely intact and something, something we need and very expensive to replace we will probably rebuild but that is about it. Not sure if we will replace the RV trailers or look at a more permanent structure. Thinking about replacing the old diesel generator with something solar but that takes lots of research.

I didn't have my RV up there becasue I use it as a guest house and actually lived in it for 2 years but since I don't travel RV style these days I may take it up there. Lots of time to think about it becasue I don't think anyone is going to do much other than clean up until next summer anyway.

It won't be possible to put things back the way they were but we will rebuild the area with some things that will make it enjoyable. Once the storage building is cleared and reinforced if needed I am sure some of the family will be bringing some of their older less used "toys" up there. I have my inflatable Zodiac type boat that is down here at my son in laws for repair just for my part

Yes, fortunately no one was there when the fire took the turn to our area. The last visit was a few days prior to the fire. Our first responders are well trained and equipped to evacuate well ahead of time. The problems come when people refuse to follow their instructions.

Unless there is some drastic off season change no rain here until at least Oct. It's our "dry" season and Sept and Oct are our hottest, driest months. This area is weird. we have several "micro climates "and things change drastically within 15 - 30 miles.

The grader is most likely salvageable but we laugh about having to sell a car for each of the tires that need replacing.

There is always a chance of wildfire anywhere in CA but this is the first one that has come close to our area. It will likely be bury the mess (literally) and start over or simply move on to something else. Fortunately I don't have to take the lead on this one. I will be lending what help and support I can but won't have to make any decisions like I have had to on the other stuff lately. Kind of feels good.
