News Is Not Good

Someone was finally able to get into the lake property today and the news is devastating. We lost everything except the dozer and the boat house / hangar itself. Most of the contents inside the structure burned, probably because the temperature was high enough to ignite many of the materials just by temperature. Add to that a tank of fuel and dirt bikes, jet skis and boats all with fuel in their tanks. Fortunately for me neither my no I had anything except a couple of inflatable kayaks stored there but others lost a lot of things. No insurance because the property is too remote to get any..

These sorts of fires are so odd. Part of the grader burned but the dozer that was right next to it remained untouched. The RV’s are nothing but small piles of ash but the oak trees over them are still green!

Not sure at this point when or how we will proceed with the clean up and / if or what / when we will rebuild replace. That will come much later

Fortunately not the property with the pool. Pool is the house in town my dad designed and had built. My sister's BF and I are in the process of purchasing that house from my stepmother. The good news is that the pool is up and running well now and a couple of hours a week cleaning keeps it going.

The property that burned was our lake place about 150 miles north of here. It is a family trust set up in the 60's for 2 families and over the years several have added things.

Interesting the tires on the grader only burnt on the right front. Wild fires are pretty weird that way. I think they can rebuild it pretty easily. Dozer (D9 CAT) is intact. I'm sure we will need it to clean up.

We are. Fortunately with all of the fire devastation in our areas the first responders are wonderfully well trained when it comes to preserving life and limb. There is seldom more than one or 2 fatalities in any of the major fires and those are usually people who did not follow evocation orders. We were more than anxious to get in and see our property the past week but did not challenge evacuation orders or fire services advice. Even us ornery types need to follow rules and advice sometimes.

I'm really sorry to learn of your loss. You'll do some grieving, and the scene up there will evolve looking quite different. Peace!
