There Are Alternatives Being disinterested in political rhetoric to the point of aversion makes TV viewing interesting. There are many alternatives to convention and news coverage. My favorite kind of program is documentaries about history, geography, medicine, psychology or nature. More miscellaneous facts to bounce around in my brain. The other night I watched a documentary on some of the construction and infra structure in ancient Rome. The first surprise was that using modern technology scans indicated a vast underground sub structure to the existing city. In some cases these are quarries where much of the stone used for building was obtained. Parts of the current city are actually at risk for collapse. A more amazing fact is the durability of some of their infrastructure. The fountain in Tervi is actually run on water supplied by the original aqueduct. Compare this to modern LA which has a collapsing water system that is only 40 – 70 years old. The ancient sewer system is equally amazing. It still functions and keeps the city from flooding as well as still functioning as a traditional sewer system. Again, with our modern technology our systems rarely last 100 let alone 2000+ years, although the waste no longer flows directly into the Tiberius River as it did in Ancient Rome. The other interesting fact is that all of the sewer systems met under what was the Forum. Guess I can’t completely escape political over tones. Spiritwoman ^i^ |

It has always amazed me how centuries old structures can still be in such good shape, and our "modern" buildings are falling apart! Could you imagine what some of those structures would look like today if they had been built just 40-80 years ago? Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.
