It's Done I put the last coat of finish on the floors today. I followed up on Ranger's suggestion, did some scouting around for polyurethane and found some at a specialty paint store a couple of towns away. I used one coat of stain and sealer and 2 of polyurethane. Finished the last coat today. All I have to do now is clean the blinds and out them back up and the rooms are done. There is still the trim in the hallway to paint and some odds and ends in the bathroom and I will be finished. I did far more than I planned at the beginning but one thing lead to another. As I put the last coat on the floors today I reflected on how amazed I am that I was able to do it all. I never thought I could do all of this work. I thought about how lucky I am just to be able to do this. Who would have ever thought a 70 year old woman could still do hard physical work. Yeah, I hurt every night and I ended up doing the floor finish sitting on my butt and sliding instead of kneeling and getting up and down. At times it seemed more like doing yoga than floor finishing but it worked just as well. I am also grateful to having been raised in an environment where I was encouraged as well as expected to do any and everything and not let being female limit me. My father also taught me by example that when something needs doing you step up and do it to the best of your ability, no questions or excuses. I will be finishing up the trim in the hall way and bathroom then I will deep clean and perhaps paint the loft so I can move my things in the storage shed into there and the attic storage so the disintegrating shed can be replaced. Don't think I will try to rebuild it though. I will just get a tuff shed. Spirit sometimes you don't have a choice. I end up doing a lot of things myself as the men aren't plentiful in these parts.

I like the wide boards. My sister and her husband has a house with that kind of flooring and since he was on the road a lot, she and I did her floors. After they were sanded, we used my Rainbow to deep vacuum all the cracks, then they had a gymnasium coating put on it. Her brother in law worked for a firm that did that kind of flooring, so he did the work and it only cost them the product. That was about 17 years ago, and I remember how I ached from that, I cannot imagine even trying it at this age. You did great! Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

The stability and agility thing are issues for all of us. Mine aren't what they were so I just move slower and modify - like finishing the floors sitting on my but instead of kneeling. Climbing is lots harder but I take it very slow and make sure I hang on well instead of doing things like I once did, running up and down the ladder with a can of paint in one hand and the brush in the other. These days both hands are on the laddder and ready to catch me if I slip. Spiritwoman ^i^

I like toe color of the color too. As I said before I am not sure what it is other than some variety of California fir. It is what ever was popular for use around here at in the early 1900's. I was able to match the original [perfectly with the stain and sealer. Originally there was no stain. just natural color but this time there was so much variation where I had to and deeper in some places I needed to do it to even things out, I don't think these floors were originally meant to be natural since the very bottom coat of anything was a typical floor paint. Thank you. One of the advantages of this ADD thing is that we can't stand to be inactive either physically or mentally. At this time in life that is a real advantage as it adds the incentive needed. Spiritwoman ^i^
