Why Some of Us Bolg

A couple of days ago someone posted something about why we blog. I found the following later that day but got busy and forgot about it. It really doesn't address why I blog it really hits the nail on the head about what I like to read about in blogs. Looks like my background in social services is showing again.

Know what you mean. It looks like at the moment you do what I do - talk about life but limit it to things like kids, homes, flowers, scenery, projects, quotes like this one that interest us and some lighter parts of life. There are lots of people here I would share my deepest thoughts and experiences with, but when some can take the simplest things and turn them into ammunition for attack. That is understandable. Just living on planet earth is like being in a mental institution of sorts but what I don't care to participate in is people using my blog as a place to insult others . Everyone has a bad day and wakes up feeling like they spent the night in the garbage can with Oscar but that does not need to be shared. Then there are those just have to jump on the insult train for a trip to disrespect.

I have a personal website where I intend to write about the deeper stuff but I haven't had much luck getting down to work on it. Life just keeps happening and disliking structure as much as I do I let it.

So true. I started out using it as a discipline to keep my writing abilities (such as they are) up but soon started making friends and looking forward to hearing what's up with them. My flesh and blood world is made up of mostly younger people so I like to keep in touch with my peers.

My website is all up and running. I just haven't had time to write much. I'll private message you with the info for the site when I get home next week.

PS definitely not Facebook. I do have a facebook page but that is just for sharing even lighter stuff than here, keeping up with family and friends and for links to other sites. It serves a purpose, primarily a bulletin board and entertainment but serious discussion is not one of them.

Website is created, up and running but I have yet to get to actually posting stuff regularly. It's like most business websites except that it has a forum part that works like this blog section of SFF. I'll send you the info via private message when I get back home net week.

If I were new here I definitely would not participate here but I'm more than sort of addicted to keeping up with those who I got to know. I doubt anyone new would join this blog community here unless they are also the type that likes to insult and hurt people.

]Same here. I'll risk being honest here knowing full well that someone will choose to make something of it but since I am already condemned for refusing to fight or aid and abet those who do and for blocking it will make no difference. When I first started participating I put you in the lack of respect group because most of your blogs were put downs or insults to those who held different opinions but I kept reading yours because you had another side that was funny, compassionate and understanding. I'm happy to see you take a stand against the meanness here. It is a delicate balancing act to stand up for what we believe without diminishing what others think, believe and feel.

As for differences of thoughts etc. I have met a few great people where that are almost opposite of me in their beliefs and outlooks but they allow others their differences. I love respectful intelligent sharing with them and continue to learn from them.

I'm interested in your other venue. I think ideas and creations and what-ifs could really soar there.

I enjoy hearing stories about people, what makes them tick. I loved hearing about how Alfie and Ann got together and about others on this site. I don't really get why it's dangerous to disclose information here, but given all the warnings I've received, it must be the case. That's sad.

I participate at various places but admit that my purpose is different from site to site. This place is what it is...and unfortunately it doesn't move along nearly fast enough for me. That's the down side here. But there is also the upside. I find it very interesting how people close to my age think, and I have to say I'm quite disappointed in the majority of what I read. Some people here are fascinating reads actually, and for what its worth, you are one of those.
Thank you. My thoughts are that the only things that are real are those we personally experience so that is what I share. Most of the usual stuff found here is of very little relevance to me

Hi Elaine

I'm not sure if you are just naive and inexperienced or have a different idea of what we need to protect ourselves from. Perhaps you are more use too a not so private life than the rest of us due to your profession which needs visibility and the fact that you do not have children you need to protect.

Those of us who offer caution do so based on our experiences. I personally have been a victim of identity theft, been stalked, had my children threatened and have been the victim of over zealous prejudiced law enforcement. None of this came about as a result of anything on SFF but I have to be very cautious about other social media like face book.

Granted there is little ill effects of what we say here on SFF other than members purposely misconstruing it or using it to promote their own agenda. In my case I object to anything that is aimed at belittling, demeaning or insult others. I do not allow insulting others in any area of my life I have any control over. It's just against all I believe in. Unfortunately there are many mean, argumentative people here. Some have active and uncontrolled mental health and / or substance abuse issues. There are those who choose to promote a religion or political ideology at the expense of others and those who just lack the intelligence or education to distinguish insult from normal conversation. These types feel they have to put others down to gain importance.

As I have said before if I want to be insulted and argued with I will adopt a teen ager or 2.

It has nothing to do with my profession. Authors don't divulge anything more about themselves than anyone else. I do tend to be trusting until I am burned. It's because I like people and I want them to not betray my trust. Of course, I've made mistakes like everyone else and hopefully learn by doing so. I think the fact I have no kids, could be a factor in my being more open than some here.

I do agree that some people are nasty and that's sad. For the most part, the people at SFF and I'm sure most sites, are nice.
