Photo Monday - A Sad Goodbye

My ’s oldest passed away this week. He was very old, deaf, mostly blind and very arthritic. We have been considering every day his last for about 2 years. He was asleep in the living room and just didn’t wake up. Such a blessing for him to pass without being sick or needing to be put down but a trauma none the less, especially for my 8 year old granddaughter who found him. This is her first close experience with losing a pet. He was special and had been with her all of her life.

My had him cremated and my granddaughter will keep the urn displayed, at least for now. Even though doggie portraits are not my thing I did one for her to include as a backdrop.

I can't seem to see the picture but I am very sorry about your daughter's dog passing away. I'm glad it was peaceful, in his sleep. It is hard to lose a member of the family, which a dog is. I think what you did for your granddaughter will help.

That is tough. We lost our first golden retriever to cancer about 2 years ago. It is a slow, heart breaking process.

I love your recording your pet losses in your Bible records. Our earliest experiences with death are always memorable on a painful way and it never leaves us.

As for a grandmotherly act - isn't being able to that one of the wonderful things about being one?

It is a painful experience. Oddly enough my first dog looked very much like this one. I still remember riding along with my father when she had to be put down.
