Dia De Amor Y La Amistad

Here in Mexico as in many Latin American cultures Valentines Day is not just for romantic love. It is a day when all kinds of love and friendship are recognized and celebrated. It is not unusual for friends to get together in groups to celebrate their connections. Small tokens of friendship or love may be exchanged but expensive items are rare. Observance and celebration are more about spending time sharing with the people who are part of our lives.

Bueno Dia de Amistad to my SFF family. I appreciate all who include me as a friend.

Bueno Dia de Amistad to you too. That's a beautiful tradition and I wish it was celebrated that way in Canada. That way everyone would feel great, as it should be.

Same in the Philippines and in Italy valentines are not only for lovers but also for friends and family.

Buon San Valentino a te Spirit!

Un saluto amica.

Thank you. We both took our damn it all (aka tramadol) and, along with a few others from our hotel took the bouncing bus ride to downtown for dinner at one of our favorite restaurants on the beach

And the US as well. This is the 6th year I have been here in Mexico for the holiday.

One of the reasons I fell in love with Mexico. It reminds me a great deal of the Italian culture I was raised in.

Hi Spirit: In Canada we have a statutory holiday called Family Day, the day after Valentines Day.

I don't remember that one but it sounds like a great idea. Designated holidays help us focus on the important things we tend to take for granted.

There seems to be many Canadians on this site. I'm Canadian too. That's why I said that I wish Canadians would celebrate Valentine's Day the way the Mexicans do.

Family Day recently became a statutory holiday in Canada, as you know. It's nice that it's so close to Valentine's Day.
