Gift Cards

Gift cards are very popular. Most of us likely received or gave them recently. But they do have a down side. We pay to get them activated and often a portion of the money on the card is often kept by the seller. Whenever possible I revert back to using cash or something as archaic as a check. There are times though when these just won't do it.

One such example - One item on Chuck's list was a huge steak dinner at a famous steak house in LA. I gave up eating at high end restaurants years ago becasue I don't eat that much in one sitting so usually waste much of the meal. While I do eat meat I am hardly a connoisseur of good beef and am unfamiliar with the local branches of either of these restaurants. Lastly I still haven't figured out how to gift wrap a meal.

My solution? A custom gift card. He can make the arrangements and I will pick up the check.

I forgot about that one - the small amount left that you either can't or don't use. I made that mistake when I got a rebate from a purchase from my phone carrier. Now when I get one I use it as credit on my bill. that way I get the full benefit.

As well as the more usual gift items, I often make "Appreciations" cards in the form of small paintings.....I buy 5by7 inch blocks of water-colour paper..........the peel-off kind and do paintings to illustrate and then lettering......"I appreciate...etc etc.....the little tiny bit I know of you, I see you as a carpenter's level.........always being conscientious to keep the bubble in the center........perhaps....."I appreciate your ability to stay centred." Maybe paint a colorful mandala or the concentric circles created by dropping a pebble in water.
Very perceptive. I never thought of myself as a carpenter's level but yes, I put a lot of effort into staying centered. Seems the best way to stay out of jail or mental institutions or more seriously to be at peace. One of the challenges of being ADD is balance. Without a lot of hard learned self control our emotional and physical extremes constantly cause lots of pain for ourselves and others.

Backgrounds? I like the bright mandela best.

Oh I love it! The news was full of warnings about gift cards.

Fortunately we have a bank here that will make "pads" of money-- if I order them early.

They are really fun and have a Christmas cover over the bills -- the person you give it to can just open the cover and pull off whatever bills they want.
Never heard of that but I love the idea. This would be a great idea for the grands.

"Necessity is the mother of invention" or in my case it's probably not wanting to waste that lead to this one.

Funny one, I like it.

Alfie...

It only takes a drop of ink to make a million people think. There are many stories.

I wonder what kind of a gift card you could come up with for Ann?

Maybe you could use my joke / serious personal kind of card for them and suggest they do something similar in return. They might catch on.
