Throwback Thursday - 1971

My father always wanted a boy. 25 years and 2 marriages later this is what he had. But we were his pride and joy. He carried this picture with him until he passed.

By the time my youngest half sister was born my other adult sister and I were on our own and the family was spread across the US and Canada. This pic was taken right after I moved to CA and my "east coast" sister was here for a visit. It was the first time all 4 of us were together.

What a lovely family photo, I am not surprised your father carried that picture with him.
We weren't is boy but the youngest and I did all of the things he wanted a boy to do - fixed and raced cars, I drove an 18 wheeler, we were into sports and inherited his curiosity and love of adventure. The middle 2 not so much. We kept him busy and happy even though I am sure all that estrogen (when you ad a wife and the fact that my grandmother lived with him) must have driven the poor man crazy.

    Beautiful picture!

When we were teens, the other adult one in this photo and I looked so much alike except for coloring people used to call us "day" and "night". I wish someone had captured this in a good photo.

I don't know what I would do without siblings. The youngest, the one with the white blond hair, and I remain very close today. We live pretty near by and hardly a day goes by without us at least talking on the phone.

It gets even funnier. Dad's family had the name Daniel in honor of father picked out but after 4 daughters from my dad, 8 nieces and a couple of the nieces having girls they decided it was time for Danielle, which is what I named my first daughter. Of course then my sister had 2 boys!

Even though it was just a casual snapshot it was enlarged and all of us have a copy. Funny how these "casual" photos become treasures.

Oh what a lovely photo!! This reminded me of another true story in my home of Quebec where a man & his wife had 10 children. The first 8 were all girls and there weren't going to be anymore (so they thought). He wanted a 'Daniel' but to their chagrin they got a Chantal instead. Then the last 2 were twins... yep & boy and a girl so there is now a Daniel & a Danielle (but funny enough they have the same pronunciation)!!

Mother nature does get the last laugh sometimes. You'd almost believe there is a god with a sense of humor playing jokes and laughing at our reactions.

I love you spirit. Your handle is perfect for you-- it's clear how much you love your family and life.
Thank you. It's true - crazy as it might be I do love my life and dysfunctional as we may be my family love and support each other, maybe because no one else will have us!

My dad would have probably given it some serious consideration, although the youngest and I gave him some boy experiences. I remember a time when I was learning to drive a truck, sis was racing cars and we both rode motorcycles. He just shake his head muttering "my little girls!"
