Starry Strry Night

I needed something different to balance my nebula paintings. I decided on small paintings of stars, which progressed to quasars, stars being born. Once I got started things progressed again and turned into whimsical, VanGogh style paintings.

The childlike informality was really fun but I am still not sure I like them. They do provide a nice contrast the more structured nebula paintings and that was my goal. .

Chuck's comment ? "From a pilot's perspective - Oh, S@@t! They're coming after me."

Nice pieces of work, I also prefer the one on the left.

Alfie...

It only takes a drop of ink to make a million people think. There are many stories.

I guess the one on the left wins! It does kind of seem other worldly.

I prefer the left one also, but what I especially like is the dark blue of both.

Me too. One of the things I like about being at my lake place is that there are no lights to interfere.

I like the many small ones, as opposed to the one large star. Just a personal opinion.
Me too. The single star with reflection did not come out at all as I wanted.

These are gorgeous......looks like a lot of fun!!!!! ....My kind of fun............It reminds me of this exercise I used to do with my recovery groups.......Often, a lot of the people hadn't done any "art" since school and perhaps had bad experiences where they lost all confidence in their creativity.........It was a fun challenge to come up with stuff that didn't alienate these people.........but I did keep coming up with stuff and managed to present it in a way that was non-intimidating......One of the most successful ones had results that looked a lot like your paintings here...........I began by giving each person a piece of good paper with a bit of tooth in a choice of black or deep indigo and 2 freshly sharpened white Prismacolour pencils.........then I would have them put heir hands on the table and close their eyes and imagine a beautiful white light moving slowly towards them,,,,,the light represented love and was gentle, but bright .......I asked them to allow the light to fill their hearts and then move down their arms and into their hands.............you know, the guided visualization techniques........and then they would draw this light........

I used guided visualization with children too and began with a simple relaxation...........the favourite was going to another planet and looking around and coming back to paint what you saw.........kids love guided visualization........I have helped many children go to sleep that way.......some parents don't like it though......they think I might be hypnotizing them, but I always include safety features......there is a great book called "Spinning Inwards." that started me on helping people access their creativity through guided visualization.......but it requires trusting the leader, the process and themselves.......not for everyone.

Thank you. I appreciate the comments as your art is so much more organized than mine - no doubt reflecting how our different minds work.

The light exercise is great. My courage boosting exercise is to see myself surrounded with and protected by the white light. I did an abstract of this and posted it a couple of months back.

Visualization has always been one of my favorite things. At tmies it is a challenge to come back to this reality.

Most of us, including me do. I always liked VanGogh. He became archetype for me when I worked in a mental health clinic that had prints of his work everywhere. I always wondered how many, beside the individuals who decided to decorate with them saw it.

I do have a thing for color. Even though I try to do some things in pastels or more subdue colors most end up being bright and bold. As i look around at my work I can only find one that is not primary color bold. Even the darker ones are dark bold. Probably a reflection of my extended perceptual range.

The difference (per the Hubble telescope site) is distance. I liked the more distant ones better too.

Blue, any shade, has always been my favorite.

They are indeed other worldly. I have had a fascination with dpace for as long as I can remember.
