Dissatisfaction

I'm a pretty flexible person but I was surprised at myself this morning.

I have been swimming 4 - 5 times a week for about 20 years. In the summer the outdoor pool here in the community is great. Near by and large enough. During the cooler part of the year I need use an indoor pool. When I lived in town the gym was 2 miles away. Out here it is a 45 min. drive each way and there is no other facility closer. That makes a work out a 3 - 3 1/2 hour procedure.

I was reminiscing about how, when I worked, my swim was usually in the evening. I would make and serve dinner, go to the gym, take my shower there, come home, eat, clean up the kitchen, relax for a bit then go to bed. I was thinking that this was easier as it interfered with my day less.

But wait - then I remembered how when I worked I dreamed about retirement so I could swim during the day!

Seems I can't even please my self. Talk about an example of "The grass is always greener......."

Unfortunately yes, and i'm sure it is not limited to swimming.

It's a habit by now. Been doing it so long I go crazy if I have to go more than a few days without a swim.

Something I need to do if I want to keep walking without assistance.

It only takes a drop of ink to make a million people think. There are many stories.

I will, even when my caregiver has to roll me to the pool and dump me in the water.

In my case I appear to be having difficulty getting over the feeling that I should be doing something more productive with my time - like I should be working on a painting, redoing the bathroom, cleaning etc. Is it possible to have too much of a work ethic?

Definitely. I looked into getting a swim spa put in out here. They make some above the ground portable (by their definition) ones but that would require a major rewiring and this place is not worth the investment so for now I'll keep on driving.

I'm a dreamer and I admit it. I can't imagine my life without the colorful perspective that fuels my curiosity.
In my case it became a matter of not being completely satisfied when I achieved the dream. Maybe that is why most of my dreams are fantasies and not achievable anyway.
