Hi Spirit: A woman I know had her eyebrows tatooed on years ago. At that time I think her hair must have been black so they tatooed on black eyebrows, but in time the black ink has faded to a blue colour. Now she has two blue straight lines for eyebrows. What a mess.

She probably still sees those black eyebrows and thinks she looks wonderful.....

I had tattoos done over sixty years ago when I was in the army. They were regimental identification tats. and they are still looking pretty good. But I can assure you that if I had the choice, I wouldn't have had them. I just hate to see women with tattoos, I think they look ugly on a woman.

Alfie...

It only takes a drop of ink to make a million people think. There are many stories.

Mine is a unique spiritual symbol on my upper back so it doesn't show that much of the time but it ha been a great start for many conversations.

I have one. It isn't visible a great deal of the time but is a means of spiritual identification. When I got it I told my kids it was so they could identify my body easier.

They require maintenance but it's easier than having to apply make up with bad eyesight and hands that don't work so well. I have considered it becasue I am allergic to most makeup but always hesitated becasue make up styles change. So far I still settle for make-upless me.

I waited until I was 65 becasue it took that long to decide on something I could commit to having on my body for a lifetime.

That is an interesting and appropriate use of tattoos.

I have a friend who had her makeup tattoos done when she started to loose her eyesight. This was years ago and the first I heard of it. It was a great solution for her becasue she was only in her 40's and knew that within a year she would not be able to see well enough to apply makeup. Shortly there after another co-worker had hers done. No one noticed at first becasue it was so close to the makeup she usually wore.

And yes, you do need a good artist doing the work as well as regular touch ups. I had mine done at a "solon" that is owned and operated by women and addresses women's choices. The woman who did mine was well experienced and had worked for the movie studios for a number of years.

I have a spiritual tatt on my upper back. Sometimes it shows, sometimes not depending on what I wear. Like you I got it for me and can share or not if I choose. Mostly I forget I have it. I would like to get another one for ceremonial symbolism on the inside of my arm but haven't gotten around to it.

I never wanted anything that was extensive and was difficult to cover up. I guess you could say mine was coming of age. I got it for my 65th birthday.

Most I know who have had the make up tatts done are happy with them - and the freedom from constantly having to apply makeup

unfortunately discretion is not part of most "coming of age" rites. My daughter insisted on one in high school. I agreed to a small dancing bear on the inside her ankle. Satisfied her and at 36 it's still attractive.

I am sure people like you describe will regret their choices. Removal is possible but is expensive not without leaving some marks.
