The Witches Broom

It’s that time of year when people look for witches on brooms so I thought I would share the real purpose of the witch’s broom.

Pagans do use an actual a symbolic broom for a couple of things. It is sometimes used to sweep an area clean of negative energy when performing a cleansing or casting a circle. It is also used to get rid of unwanted guests. Ritual has it that if you have an unwanted guest place the near the door. Unless it will cause harm for the guest to leave he / she will within the hour.

The main association of the witch and the broom comes from what some call the “burning times”, when anyone who did not follow “Christian” religions was persecuted, arrested, imprisoned and frequently killed. This sort of persecution began in the early days of the Roman Church (around 300 AD) and extended well into the 1800’s. Pagan practitioners had to hide their ritual tools in order to be safe. The wand, one of a Pagan’s primary tools, was usually made from wood. Brooms were made from brush, straw or twigs tied to a larger tree branch. The wand was often hidden in the broom so it would look like an ordinary household item.

Enough of that – I am leaving in a few minutes to attend the SFF get together lunch in Long Beach.

Happy BD early. I have 2 sets of friends who were married on Halloween, complete to costumes. these were second weddings and they wanted them to be fun. Try a broom with an automatic transmission - much easier to fly!

Oh yes, we have brooms here - many different kinds and designs. We also have decorative types which resemble the old home made ones.

Holidays are always fun. The only one I burn out on is Christmas / New Years and that is simply becasue it goes on for far too long (long enough to make everyone bloated, worn out and cranky).

That is what it is all about - what we do in the name of religion, beliefs and not to forget our own interpretation of the universal good.

Many thanks for the education, SpiritGirl.

I love witches, brooms, church, temple, monastery, graveyards, ghosts, mosque
s et al. They have never done any harm to me except once when a Mullah asked for me to be stoned - this was in response to a simple question whether he had met Allah or Mohammad.

I was all of fourteen years old.

That was the day that I discovered that I was a fairly good sprinter and a good long distance runner.

Have a wonderful day, SpiritGirl.

Scary thing for a 14 year old seeking the spiritual truth. Good lesson in where it is not!
