The Haunted Heart

The "novelty" wears off from what we're told
that dreamy draw that tapers off and wanes
the call of which to leave us good and cold
to think that now but memory that remains.

To contemplate the past can bring its tears
a sudden surge that takes us by surprise
a lightning bolt the rushing of the years
the thrust of time that has no compromise.

But still somehow some things are holding fast
such precious things that time will not erase
should some insist we're living in the past
when vows we made were not a passing phase.

The haunted heart as well a mourning dove
implied the ache that's also known as love.

Very lovely Richard...We never get over a true love we shared, that definitely haunts our heart, and suddenly without warning, the ache is there and tears are shed, if only for a moment...

Hi ladyangelula. Thank you for the insightful feedback, and
how right you are: to have loved, truly, is to be haunted
by that spectre from the past. And I doubt that anyone would
be immune to it. I certainly know that feeling. It matters
not what caused the ending, what was once there is not so
readily denied or dismissed.

I also am haunted by a love that once held my heart...to think of him does indeed bring tears to my eyes and for me, I think of it as my heart crying...

Lovely as always...

Marie

Hi Marie. Thank you for the open feedback. I know about
the heart crying. Sometimes it hardly seems fair. Still,
we are also enriched no end by those we love or have been
loved by or in love with. In any case, we are human, each
and all, and each has such a story, I would think. Not a
bad thing to be human and to share...

Hi Rickie,

So turn we all still love those we once loved out loud (qouted from Oriah)
