The Democrats Debate , Who Won?...... Nov 17, 2007 6:43 am

.....Watched the Democratic Debate the other night, thinking about it and the (non)answers that were given I said to myself who won? Hillary bragged about being the front runner, Edwards got booed, Richardson reminded us all that hes been a Governor, Obama didn't seem as sharp as he usually does, Kucinich would not give a yes or no to the question would he support the nominee whomever it may be, and Joe Biden, perhaps was the most impressive of them all. So who won? The Republicans did who else.....

"The Triple Nickles" .......may we never forget... Nov 16, 2007 4:49 pm

....Today CJC and I with some folks from our Church visited the home/museum of Major General William Lee in Dunn North Carolina. Considered to be the Father of our Airborne the 101st and 82nd Divisions. Their exploits in WW2 are legendary. Being a military history buff of sorts I found that a little known outfit called the "Triple Nickles" were of interest to me. As everyone knows in WW2 our military much like America was segregated. In late 1943 the Army quietly brought 23 black soldiers to Ft. Benning Ga. to undergo Airborne training. It was called a "test platoon" as the Army wanted to see if Blacks were able to stand up to the mental and physical rigors of such training. They more than passed the test. The unit grew to battalion size and by November 1944 it was called the 555th Parachute Infantry Battalion. (The Triple Nickles). They were quartered near Fort Bragg in North Carolina......Although competent and highly motivated they were not allowed to participate in Combat operations. Finally in the spring of 1945 the 555th was called to action in our Pacific Northwest. Japan was releasing Airborne balloons carrying explosive and incendiary devices into the Jet Stream which carried them to our west coast. Often times members of the 555th had to parachute into densely forested areas over rugged terrain to fight these fires. It was dangerous work and they suffered many injuries...... The unit returned to N,C. in October 1945. In 1947 the Battalion was officially deactivated. Their final note in history was that the Division Commander of the 82nd Airborne placed many of these highly trained soldiers into a newly created Airborne Battalion. This made them the first regulars to be integrated in the Army a full year ahead of President Truman's executive order to desegregate the Military. Many of these brave men served and fought in Korea and Viet Nam. The men still remain in touch with each other today through a very active veterans organization...... Just like the Tuskegee Airmen and the Marines of Montford Point, these Black Americans deserve their place in our nations military history. "They shunted the windows of the past, by their values of character, pride and unity." .........I couldn't agree any more........Semper Fidelis and Fratres Aterni......

Moaners and Whiners.....a follow up Nov 14, 2007 8:01 am

....Boy did I ever catch the flak. What planet do I come from? I watch too much of the fairy News channel, Our economy compared to what? I like to stir up controversy etc. etc,.......Well CJC (shes pretty smart you know) told me to get some facts and figures to back my assertions up.....Fair enough?

#1 Low inflation. The average annual inflation rate since GWB took office in 2001 is 2.67%. Over a 6 year period that means prices have increased 16%. For those of you that went to government schools that means that in 2001 if you paid $100 for an item it now cost $116. Still not convinced we have low inflation? Moan to the Government Accounting Office not me......#2 Low unemployment. Looking at the State by State chart I see a high in Michigan of 7.5% and a low in Idaho of 2.4%.(wow bet they have to get canadians to work there) This is and average of 4.9%. The average unemployment peaked in Jan. 2003 at 6.3% it has steadily declined to 4.4% in Dec. 2006. We have lower unemployment rates than the U.K., Canada, Germany, France, India, Russia, Italy, Spain, Sweden and Israel. China does have lower unemployment(just barely), after all look at all the stuff they make so the American consumer can enjoy those Looowww prices.....#3 Low Interest rates. This was a tricky one as I look at the chart I see it to be a wavy line that goes up and down over the years. Since GWB has been in office it has gone from a high of 9.85% in 2001 to 7.5% in Oct. this year. Not that impressive but still pretty good, considering 9/11 economic fallout, Katrina fallout, and now the housing market crisis. So my friends I stand by my assertions that the overall Economy has and still is pretty darn good.

....Have I really missed the boat? Did the train leave the station without me? Has my car got a flat tire? .......Oh I do appreciate everyones comments no matter how different they are....

Moaners and Whiners........there coming out of the woodwork.... Nov 13, 2007 4:40 pm

....Ive noticed lately there have been a lot of blogs dissatisfied with the direction this country is going. Well now lets see, our economy is sound, we have low inflation, low unemployment and low interest rates. The Administration has made changes in the war on terror causalties are down and visible progress is being made. Taxes are low (Course I want to see lower) and things seem pretty stable. So what direction do you want to go in? A shaky economy with high inflation? High unemployment? High interest rates? More casualties and disastrous defeats? Higher taxes? Mmmmmmmm I like the direction we are going my self, seems like its not to bad after all. But you know what? You maybe right for a Libertarian in the White House would make everything better.......

Resonsibilty........what will you do? Nov 12, 2007 11:25 am

.....Just suppose you are in charge (the head person) of rescue efforts at the site of a natural disaster. There are 2 groups of people and you only have enough resources (time, equipment and manpower) to save one group. That being said you might be able to save the other group but you just don't know at this point. One group is the rich. Productive members of society that work hard, pay their taxes, create jobs and are responsible for their actions. The other group is poor, do not work, rely on welfare and other like programs to survive. Some have more children than they can afford. They blame the first group for their status and do not take responsibility for themselves.......OK which group do you commit your resources to first.
The Rich people, and why
The Poor people, and why
Other , I will comment but remeber times a wasting

The Little Flag and CJC.......... Nov 11, 2007 8:06 am

......Here it is Veterans day. It also is CJC's, birthday. When I had first met her and she told me when her birthday was I replied wow thats Veterans day. She replied yes I know and I am honored to share that day with all Veterans..... My first visit to her home I noticed a small framed banner which I instanly recognized. The 3 blue stars on a white field with a red border signified how many family members that you had serving in WW2. It was the original banner from that era that hung in the window at her Mothers home as she had 3 brothers serving at the same time during WW2. The banner is fading and frayed, colors not nearly as vivid as they once were. It brought a sense of sadness to my heart for it reminded me that the Veterans of WW2 are fading as well. Every year we lose hundreds if not thousands of them. Soon they will all be gone but their sacrifices will always be with us. So dear old banner you may be faded, frayed, and worn but you always have a place of honor in our hearts and in our Home. Thank you CJC for treasuring that flag, for protecting it all these years. You have not only honored your Uncles but you have honored all Veterans on your Birthday and reminding us that loved ones wait at home praying to sustain those in harms way.

....CJC your the Greatest.......Happy Birthday..

....Your recent blog about the Marine Corps 232nd Birthday was magnificent. Thank you very much. Marines and former Marines all over the world will celebrate today. Our 13th Commandant General John A, Lejeune saw to it that every Marine no matter the clime or place is to celebrate on each November 10th the Marine Corps birthday. Your kind words and wonderful C&P was certainly appreciated by me and I am sure any other Marine whom may have read it........So Lady Nads you deserve a Semper Fi from me and a great big OOOORAHHHHH............

November 10, 2007.............232 years tradition continues. Nov 10, 2007 4:45 am

.....They were called "Devil Dogs" by the Germans at Belleau Wood in WW1. On Iwo Jima Fleet Admiral Nimitz said of us "Uncommon valor was a common virtue". When told that his division was surrounded by 9 Chinese Army divisions at the Frozen "Chosin" Chesty Puller said "Good the SOB's wont get away this time". In the words of the current Commandant, General James Conway, to all past and present Marines, "Know that your citizenship is paid in full"....... The Marines heritage is forged in steel, tempered by battle and honed to sharpness by duty honor & country. God Bless all Marines past and present on their 232nd Birthday. May the sacrifices they made for this Country be forever chiseled in our Nation's roll call of honor.

Reagan-Clinton ........they were similar Nov 9, 2007 7:02 am

......The 2 most successful politicians in recent memory has been Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton. Despite obvious differences they both were similar. Each had to work with Congress's from the other party......During the Carter years Democrats became dissatisfied. President Carter's mismanagement of the economy, the Iran hostage situation, giving away of the Panama Canal and Russia invading Afghanistan situation. They sought a leader who was strong on Defense, who could restore pride in America and better manage the economy. Thus was born the "Reagan" democrat. Reagan was a master of compromise and was able to work with a democrat controlled congress and get much legislation passed. Despite some scandals (Iran-Contra) and some setbacks Reagan had no trouble with being elected for 2 terms......Like President Reagan, Clinton had to woo the republican voter in like fashion. He promised to end welfare as we know it, balance the budget and believed strongly in free trade. All were republican ideals. He was easily swept into office for 2 terms. He was a master of compromise and worked well with the republican majority in Congress. Despite scandal,(the infamous red dress) most of his initiatives were passed and was able balanced the budget. .....Today we are faced with a similar scenario. Americans of both parties are dissatisfied with the current direction we are going. We seem to want someone who can unite the Red and Blue states, who can bring us together again. Someone who both parties can look up to and get things done. Our country has been divided long enough.......As I look at candidates from both parties I see such a person. A strong leader who is a person of principle, strong on defense, concerned about the economy and can unite us again. A master of compromise that can work with Congress no matter what party is in charge......That person is Senator John McCain of Arizona. So will we be talking about the "McCain" democrat much like we did with the "Reagan" democrat. I see a man of strong principle. A sterling background and an ability to compromise to end the deadlocks we now face.

A Weekend Dilemma.....Whats a Guy to do? Nov 8, 2007 8:26 am

......This Weekend there is so many different events occuring that I guess i will have to prioritize them in order to make it to Monday. On Saturday the biggie for me is its the Marine Corps 232nd birthday. Also East Carolina (my school) is playing Marshall Univerity (CJC's school) and the big game North Carolina is playing North Carolina State. Go Wolfpack!!! Sunday of copurse is Veterans day another biggie for me and all Americans. I was talking to a gentleman last night at our monthly church supper who was in the Navy during WW2. As he related his experiences off the Okinawa Coast with the air filled with Japanese Kamakazie aircraft, chills went up my spine. How daunting is it trying to shoot down planes hell bent on crashing into your ship. I cant imagine the feeling he must have had. An Aircraft Carrier is ill equipped to do that as it has only a few such guns on deck. They were the primary tagets of the Japanese......Finally CJC's Birthday is on Veterans day as well. The big advantage to her birthday being on the 11th is I'll never forget it. So whats a Guy to do? well first priority and number one on the list is CJC's Birthday.....I'm so sorry Marines , Veterans, and college football fanatics, I'm not married to any of you .......CJC your the greatest.....
