Senator Obama's Patriotism......... Jul 2, 2008 4:42 pm
78 Views
......I listened with interest this past Monday to Senator Obama's speech on patriotism. I suppose my interest was, what or how he could tell or define what patriotism was to me?....I certainly was struck by his eloquence and public speaking ability. I have to admit I agreed with him on just about every point. What I didn't agree on is the things he did not say. Just like his "Race" speech when the controversy about his Pastor came to light, it was not what he said but rather what he did not say.......He did this when he said that dissent to a country's policies is not unpatriotic, and thats true, but where is the line drawn between legitimate dissent and illegitimate. Burning the flag? disrupting a hearing on capitol Hill?, Chaining yourself to a Marine Corps recruiting station? Spitting on a soldiers uniform? or maybe calling the President an SOB or a stupid MF.....Senator you said "I believe those who attack America's flaws without acknowledging the singular greatness of our ideals, and their proven capacity to inspire a better world, do not truly understand America." Name names Senator let us hear as examples just who you are talking about.......Anyway it was a good speech and I liked it just wish he could have said more......

......Thanks Canada on your day today for sharing with us the longest undefended border in the World. For giving us Ice Hockey, for the wonderful products you provide us, for your undestanding of us, for sharing all you have, for being a neighbor, but most of all for driving on the right side of the road because I find it very hard to visit your beautiful country otherwise......LOL

Your fair Dominion now extends
From Cape Race to Nootka Sound
May peace forever be your lot
And plenty a store abound
And may those ties of love be yours
Which discord cannot sever
And flourish green for freedom's home
The Maple Leaf Forever.

BaseBall and Relationships............ Jun 30, 2008 9:32 pm

.....To me baseball is "THE" Sport. When attending a game the first thing one notices that there is no clock. Unlike the other major American sports. Time is not a regulating factor. Well neither is the other "Sport" You know the sport this site is all about. All guys like to "score", they even don't mind just getting to "first base" but of course the goal is a "Home Run". Bill Clinton always enjoyed just getting to "Third base", never had to worry about "Knocking one out (up) of the the park". We use baseball metaphors all the time to describe our relationship encounters. She threw me a "curve", I "struck out" on my last date...My buddy called he was sick so I had to "pinch hit" for him on a blind date........Perhaps one of David Letterman's top ten of top ten list's was his baseball sexual euphemisms top ten list:

10. Working the rosin bag

9. Comebacker

8. Charging the mound

7. Riding the pine

6. Jerking one into the seats

5. Coming from behind

4. Doubleheader

3. Going deep in the hole

2. The big unit

1. Visiting Busch Stadium

...So remember Baseball just like relationships is not about winning or losing, striking out or scoring, it all about how you play the "GAME"......

A "Right" to Choose........... Jun 30, 2008 5:45 pm

.......In one of my previous blogs I was told in a comment that the American Constitution guarantees the right to choose. OK where? Its not in there. Ok then its implied. Says so in the 9th amendment. OK well if I have the "right" to choose then why are they telling me that my "right" is only in the areas that they deem. THe choices I want are not allowed...... Now in Roe vs Wade I am have been told to believe Americans have the "right" to an abortion. Thats a "choice". OK I want to send my child to a religious school. They say go right ahead but pay for it. Wow some "choice". OK then if you want an abortion pay for it. I consider abortion in all but less than 1% of the cases "elective" surgery and as such it should not be payed for by tax dollars. I also feel that if I want to send my child to get an education that it should be paid for by tax dollars no matter where he/she gets it. Now thats what I call a "choice". Sorry I am told you cannot have that choice.........Its not a "right". Do I smell a hypocrite?.........

"Shoeless" Joe............Its Time also........ Jun 30, 2008 3:55 pm

.....My previous blog I supported the idea that it was time for Pete Rose to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown NY. Well now I am going a step further. Lets get "Shoeless" Joe Jackson enshrined for it is way past time for him. He was one of the most prolific hitters in the game. His rookie season he batted .408 probably a record that will stand forever. In his 9 full seasons he never batted less than .308. His lifetime batting average of .356 is 3rd highest in baseball history. The "sin" that Joe Jackson did was to be "accused" of taking a bribe in the 1919 world series to insure the other team prevailed. Well the other team did prevail and even if he had taken a bribe the persons doing the bribing sure didn't get their moneys worth because "Shoeless" Joe batted .375 and fielded his position flawlessly. Although he was acquitted by a judge Baseball Commissioner Landis decided to impose a lifetime ban on Joe anyway.........Joe you were an ol Country boy who just wanted to play the game. Baseball was honored by your presence and its time for baseball to honor you and induct you into the Hall af Fame so you can take your place among the best. Because you truly were..........

Pete Rose........its time.... Jun 29, 2008 1:14 pm

......After watching my Gson play baseball in Cooperstown NY over the web via webcam this past week, I was struck by the fact that legend says the game of baseball started there. The National Baseball Hall of Fame is located there. Its an impressive building dedicated to preserving the history and enshrinement of the greatest players to ever play the game. That being said its missing one. People say the hardest thing to do in sports is hit a round ball with a round bat. Pete Rose did it best and has more hits than anyone who ever played Major League baseball. He was selected to 17 all star games in an unprecedented 5 different positions. "Charlie Hustle" played the game like no other before him and no one since. Having admitted he had gambled on games as a Manager its now time for him to be inducted. The Hall of Fame in Cooperstown needs to be complete. It would be shameful to keep denying him his rightful place among those hallowed walls....

By the way the boy did quite well going 18 for 22 of which 12 were home runs in the 8 games his team participated in. can't wait to see what he does when he's 13...........

Is This Your View?........how sad. Jun 29, 2008 7:59 am

...........My favorite blogger is at it again and of which I feel a strong desire to comment. ....It was in fact a very good blog as his viewpoints certainly mirror a lot of my own. However in that he has banned me from commenting there was one view that I really dispute....."I steer clear of almost all Christians. I was raised in a Christian religion and have attended various Christian churches most of my life. I just have come to see that, by and large, Christians are arrogant, biased, and ill informed. I see no reason to waste my time with those in that orientation. My world view is larger than the narrow mindedness of some I observe. I have no problem if you are Christian...just don't tell me that I need to be "saved" or that I am an "unbeliever"
..............................................
"Almost all" by and large Christians are arrogant, biased and ill informed. He does not want to waste his time. Christians are narrow minded and he has no desire to be "saved" or told he is an "unbeliever"....... This type of cynicism maybe intellectual to him but his rejection of the need to be "saved" tells me that he views death as the final curtain. Is it really? It sure is sad if it is..... An "unbeliever" he may be and that is saddest of all. All the joy of living, the peace and contentment and the abundance of love he is missing is a view few can accept. I hope that one day this type of "view" by him will leave his heart and he will accept the better "view" from a place called Calvary......Christians don't know all the answers but they do know one thing, they are "forgiven".......

The Dumbing Down of a President....... Jun 29, 2008 4:44 am

......Much has been said about President Bush on the subject of his intelligence, especially the lack of. So whats the real story? is he in fact the least intelligent of our Presidents. The Lowenstien institute probably initiated this myth when they reported his IQ to be 91. This is remarkable in that there is no such institute. It was however circulated on the internet and many view it as fact. This mis-information is in the minds of many probably because of his public speaking ability, which is frequently the brunt of late night TV jokes..........In 1978 President Bush lost his only election to a candidate who made fun of him having degrees from Yale and Harvard. From that point on he made a vow to never be out-dumbed again. In 2000 when reporters asked his mother, former first lady Barbara Bush about his apparent lack of intelligence she replied, " He is dumb like a fox".....Anyway lacking a true IQ score it can only be estimated and that is done by looking at his SAT score when he applied to Yale. His verbal was 566 and Math 640 for a combined score of 1206. From those numbers it can be said that his IQ is in the 125 range if not higher. To put that score in terms we can relate to 1 in 20 score that high. .........An elitist he is not, "just a good ol boy" he is.

Where Has Iraq Gone?........ Jun 28, 2008 7:46 pm

.......This past March we have been involved in Iraq for 5 years. Soon the war critics seemed to be everywhere as the Bush Administration mumbled, bumbled and fumbled the the war in Iraq. Nothing seemed to be going right. Enter the election of 2004. President Bush was re-elected for a second term and things started to change. A new Secretary of Defense came aboard. The months dragged on and the Presidents harshest critics took control of Congress in 2006. Immediately the white flag went up, calls for abandoning Iraq were hot and heavy on the nightly news. Behind it all was a resolute President who had other ideas. Grasping at the suggestion of a new General a surge was authorized. Violence and casualties dramatically dropped. A light at the end of the tunnel is a distinct possibility.......So what is our options now? Do we give it a chance and if so at what cost? Do we give the Iraqi's an opportunity to govern themselves and if so how much time? The mistakes of the past are history and America needs to go forward and resolve these questions in a thoughtful, sensible fashion .......as far as the anti war protesters I will leave them with a paraphrased quote from John Stuart Mill. Noted liberal thinker from England in the mid 1800's....................
....."War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."

DC handgun law........out the window Jun 28, 2008 1:22 pm

....The Supreme Court has ruled that the ban on owning and possessing a handgun in the District of Colombia is unconstitutional. I applaud the courts ruling. What disturbs me was that it was only a 5-4 decision. We have 4 justices sitting on the high court who desire to dismantle the parts of it they disagree with and keep only the parts they like. In writing for the minority in dissent Justice Stevens wrote that the Majority, ""would have us believe that over 200 years ago, the Framers made a choice to limit the tools available to elected officials wishing to regulate civilian uses of weapons.".....Our Supreme Court Justices are supposed to be learned individuals. How can Justice Stevens and the other 3 dissenters believe that lifting a total ban is limiting an elective official wishing to regulate uses of weapons? With a ban there is no regulating the use of because there is nothing to regulate. ........Justice Breyer wrote "In my view, there simply is no untouchable constitutional right guaranteed by the Second Amendment to keep loaded handguns in the house in crime-ridden urban areas." Well Justice Breyer how about this, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. I did not see anything about "except in crime-ridden urban areas" in the 2nd amendment........Senator Fienstien (d-Ca)leading advocate for gun control had this to say,"I believe the people of this great country will be less safe because of it." Senator you need to ask the members of the New Life Church in Colorado Springs if they were less safe when a female church member shot and killed a gunman who had opened fire inside that church during a sunday morning worship service.........

The Constitution is a "legal" document not a "living" one that liberals want to change to fit their agenda.....The framers knew exactly what they were doing......
